What You Will Do

Reporting to the Supervisor, Substations & Power Control, you will be responsible for directing and supervising all phases of the work carried out in substations, breaker rooms, underground cable vaults, and the Power Control Operations Centre. This entails the installation, inspection, maintenance, repair and testing of automatic substation and related traction power distribution equipment, various electrical/electronic systems related to Power Control, Maximo Asset Management system, S.C.A.D.A. system, the "Real Time" computer system and associated peripherals. This also includes all types of electronic and electrical rectifying equipment, power distribution equipment, and power feeder cables that provide traction power for streetcar, subway, and RT services.
As a Foreperson, Substations, you will be executing, implementing, reviewing, updating and applying the TTC's Electrical Work Protection Code, Lock Out, Supporting Guarantee and other critical safety processes.
You will be developing work methods and schedules and ensuring that work is carried out safely and in accordance with standard practices. You will be recommending and implementing new improvements to equipment and/or methods of work revisions. In addition, you will be investigating various injuries, accidents, incidents or other problems that may arise.
You will be responsible for ensuring staff are trained on all aspects of work and on any new or modified equipment. Additionally, you will be responsible for maintaining discipline and promoting harmony within the section. You will ensure all rules and regulations originating in the Collective Agreement, Commission and Department policies and Government legislation (i.e. W.H.M.I.S., Occupational Heal & Safety Act, Human Rights Act, etc.) are satisfied and applied fairly and consistently.

What Qualifications Do You Bring?

Your educational background will consist of technical school graduation in an electrical/electronic discipline plus a formalized apprenticeship resulting in a Certificate of Qualification as an Electrician - Construction & Maintenance, combined with experience working with sophisticated electrical equipment.
Your application will demonstrate thorough knowledge and experience of Substations & Power Control Centre Operations of transit infrastructure
It will also demonstrate your knowledge of the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical/electronic substation equipment such as rectifiers, feeder breakers, transformers, motor alternators, inverters and high voltage equipment, etc.
Your ability to plan, assign and direct the work of a unionized group of skilled technical employees will benefit you in this role.
You will have sound judgement, well-developed problem solving, interpersonal and overall communications skills.
As a Foreperson, Substations, you will be required to complete various courses in effective supervision plus technical courses related to the work.
