Location
This position is required to work in person at the Operations Centre, 3330 Harvester Road, Burlington, Ontario. Work location is subject to change at the discretion of the City due to operational demands.
Position Overview
This position reports to the Supervisor of Horticulture and is a working foreperson position. This position will provide guidance to crews regarding procedures, equipment, and work methods, and assists in the planning and scheduling of all resources necessary to carry out horticulture programs.
Responsibilities
This position will be responsible for:Coordinating, executing, and providing input to horticulture programs, services and/or processes. Instructing, training and orientating staff in all aspects of the job and providing feedback on performance. Auditing and monitoring work progress, reviewing maintenance schedules and performing inspections to ensure standards are met regarding work performed on horticultural assets. Interpreting and providing guidance on planting plans and designs for landscape maintenance and installation of new developments. Investigating and responding to inquiries from the general public, emergency services, as well as other departments, senior management and members of Council. Operating and performing minor maintenance on various types of motor vehicles and equipment. Liaising with and overseeing work of contractors to ensure compliance with health and safety standards and contractual obligations. Working with software and applications that supports all daily activities including work requests, Daily Vehicle Inspection Reports, Hours of Service Tracking, including equipment and personnel time tracking. Complying with requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Highway Traffic Act, Ontario Traffic Manual Book 7, Federal, Provincial and City regulations, policies and procedures. Performing the role of a stand-in Supervisor on occasions when the Supervisor is not available. This may include on-call responsibilities.

Requirements
You have a diploma in Horticulture and 3 years of related horticulture experience. You also have knowledge and experience with Book 7. You are physically able to perform the required duties of the position and work in all weather conditions. This position requires you to work shifts including weekends, holidays and standby and overtime.
Proven experience in the following areas will help you be successful in this role:Staff supervision, including training and monitoring work performance Using computer equipment, corporate software applications and MS office applications. Oral and written communication skills, including the ability to comprehend plans, prepare reports and undertake email correspondence. Effective interpersonal, customer service and problem-solving skills that allow you to manage and respond to issues relating to staff and the public.

A valid Class DZ driver's licence is required with an acceptable driver's abstract (no more than three (3) driving related convictions or an accumulation of no more than three (3) demerit points in the previous three (3) years prior to the date of hire). Applicants without a DZ license must be willing to obtain a Class DZ license within six months of starting in this position.
