Job Summary
You are committed to excellence in sustainable forest management This position is responsible for carrying out a variety of field work and technical activities related to seed orchard operations, including establishing and maintaining orchards, research trials, and operational projects. The Ministry of Forests is responsible for stewardship of Provincial Crown land and natural resources. Overseeing a land base of 94.8 million hectares, the Ministry supports the sustainable management of forest, mineral and land resources, the prosperity, viability and competitiveness of industries that use them, and public access for a wide range of activities such as hunting, fishing and recreation. The Ministry is responsible for policy, development, operational management and implementation, and oversees over 50 statutes and associated regulations.
Job Requirements:

  • Technical diploma or bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in forestry, plant biology, agriculture, horticulture, or related field; OR,
  • Enrolment or completion of relevant coursework in a related field PLUS 6 months of related experience; OR,
  • Secondary school graduation (Grade 12) or equivalent, PLUS 1 year of related experience within the last 5 years.
  • An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be considered.
  • Related field includes forestry, biology, agriculture, horticulture, soil science, botany, tree physiology, dendrology, or genetics.
  • Related experience is defined as tree planting, nursery operations, horticulture, farming, gardening, or landscaping.
  • Valid BC Class 5, 7N, or equivalent Driver\xe2\x80\x99s Licence (Class 7L is not considered equivalent).

Preference may be given to applicants with any of the following:
  • Intermediate or higher level of experience with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and database applications.
  • Experience in a labour intensive or outdoor work environment.
  • Experience operating machinery and equipment (ATVs, pruners, weed eaters, mowers).
Valid certifications and training in:
o Pesticide Applicator\xe2\x80\x99s Certificate
o Aerial Platform Operator\xe2\x80\x99s Ticket
o Fall Arrest Training
o ATV Operator Certificate
o Chainsaw Certificate
o Forklift Operator Certificate
