Position Purpose
Reporting to the Manager OM Kitchen Services (Manager) the Food Truck Driver is responsible for driving the food truck into vulnerable communities and serving meals out of the truck in these communities. They are expected to operate the Food Truck vehicle in a safe manner at all times, obeying all rules of the road, and follow all appropriate company policies and procedures. They must adhere to sanitation practices and health and safety requirements. The Food Truck Driver will have a "What Ever It Takes" attitude with the people in the communities by providing them with professional, consistent, reliable, service while in that community.
Food Truck Driver
Professional representation of The Ottawa Mission through responsible driving and appearance
Drive the truck into assigned vulnerable communities
Serve meals to people in the community using excellent customer service
Operation of all food truck kitchen equipment and tools
Assigning and instructing Kitchen Assistants to complete appropriate tasks if necessary
Ensure all dishes are cleaned and stored when returned to the Orleans kitchen
Proper handling and accurate completion of all necessary paperwork related to daily responsibilities
Receive food services and other deliveries, overseeing condition and handling of incoming goods
Pick up, prior to community meal service, donations from the OM Kitchen to be distributed to clients (i.e., grocery bags, etc.)
Adhere to all Legislated and Ottawa Mission policies and procedures, including all Health and Safety related policies and procedures
Ensure all standards regarding hygienic food storage, preparation and serving are maintained in order to successfully meet all the requirements of inspections by the Ottawa Public Health Department
Other related duties as required and/or assigned by the Manager
Housekeeping
Maintain cleanliness of food truck interior and exterior and all the equipment
Clean and sanitize food truck kitchen appliances, fridges, stoves and other appliances or equipment
Sanitize and polish food truck kitchen
Sweep and mop food truck floor as needed
Maintenance
Refuel the food truck as required using The Ottawa Mission's gas credit card
Maintain food truck usage / mileage logs
Adhere to all road safety requirements at all times
Education
High school diploma
Experience
2 - 3 years' experience as a driver
Experience driving large vehicles considered an asset
Experience working with Homeless and Vulnerable populations considered an asset
Qualifications
Valid 'G' Class Driver's License with a clean driver's abstract (Must be able to provide a copy of abstract)
Excellent driving skills
HACCP, WHMIS and City of Ottawa Food Handlers Certification required
Proven ability to demonstrate safety and sanitation
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Good oral and written communication skills
Ability to multi-task
Ability to work in a very fast paced environment
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
Must be a self-starter with a sense of urgency and the ability to work with minimal supervision
Flexibility in work hours, including early mornings
Bilingualism (English/French) considered an asset
Working Conditions
High degree of physical activity involving: walking, standing, sitting, climbing stairs, bending, lifting, driving
Ability to stand for long periods of time
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
Ability to maintain alertness while driving
Must be comfortable working in a challenging environment that has the potential for confrontation and/or exposure to violence
