The Mustard Seed is seeking a dedicated Food Services Team Lead (Calgary) to play a vital role in providing nourishment to our guests.

Reporting to the Food Services Manager, the Food Services Team Lead member Works alongside the food services staff and the volunteers, The Food Services Team Lead is responsible, as part of a team, to assist with preparing meals for our guests. The Food Services Team Lead will also ensure all food deliveries from suppliers and donations are received, sorted, and stored in the most efficient manner.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee the delivery of a healthy and nutritious meal program including researching nutritional information and creating menus that fit the budget and available donations
  • Function as the lead and key contact for day-to-day oversight of Food Services
  • Manage the food & kitchen supplies portion of the Food Services budget
  • Order food and supplies necessary to maintain the successful daily operation of Food Services
  • Maintain and be mindful of food costs in the preparation of meals and ensure menu plans are followed
  • Implement the procedures, standards, and policies of the Environmental Health Services Guidelines regarding how food is prepared, handled, and stored
  • Supervise cleaning of all Food Services areas to ensure health and safety standards are met
  • Provide information to the Food Services Manager regarding kitchen renovations or improvements, and the repair or maintenance of equipment
  • Identify problem areas and suggest methods to improve overall operations of the kitchen
  • In conjunction with the Volunteer department, implement strategy to involve volunteers within Food Services
  • Keep a current inventory of all kitchen equipment
  • Conduct food pick-ups as may be required
  • Assist in identification of program equipment and materials
  • Assist in the implementation of program evaluation
  • Provide direction, supervision, and training in food handling procedures to volunteer meal groups, community education groups, individual volunteers, and fine option workers
  • Evaluate volunteers and fine option workers, as required
  • Record meals served and fine option workers and volunteer hours
  • Implement health and safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment
  • Assist with recruitment as requested
  • Provide direction and supervision of staff to assist them to perform their tasks in an effective and efficient manner, including creating work schedules
  • Ensure staff provide the appropriate reception, acknowledgement, and encouragement for donors, serving groups, and volunteers
  • Provide input to the Food Services Manager for staff performance reviews as requested
  • Provide training for program staff in food handling procedures and fundamental First Aid
  • Participate in and ensure staff completes required First Aid training
  • Serve on internal and external committees, as requested
  • Attend meetings and training, as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
  • Formal training in Food Services and/or minimum of three (3) years\' experience working in a commercial kitchen environment
  • Experience overseeing staff in a kitchen is considered a strong asset
  • Valid certificate from the Alberta Health Services (AHS) Food Safe course
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs (i.e., Word, Outlook, Excel)
  • Good organizational skills necessity for menu planning, staff scheduling, food ordering and special events planning
  • Ability to lead a team consisting of paid staff, volunteers, and guests
  • Ability to resolve conflicts as they arise
  • Access to a reliable vehicle is an asset
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Commercial kitchen environment
  • Moderate to extreme physical effort: periods of extended standing, reaching, lifting, and walking; must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Moderate to intense mental effort: periods of high-volume workload, environment is sometimes high-pressure in which the ability to adapt to change and find creative solutions is essential
  • Fast-paced and demanding work environment

This position requires the use of a company vehicle. Candidate must have and maintain valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s licence and will need to consent to a driver\xe2\x80\x99s abstract request.
