The
Food Services Worker
is a dedicated position for people living with HIV/AIDS. As a member of the Program Services Team, the Food Services Worker will cook and prepare food/meals for Fife House residents/clients across service locations, aligning with unique program needs and fulfilling relevant funding deliverables. The work will be completed to the highest quality of health standards: food preparation and service delivery, equipment maintenance, and supply management assistance.
In addition, the Food Services Worker will help carry out all catering responsibilities related to the program and any meals needed for Fife House special events.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Meal Preparation/Delivery & Menu Development:
Prepares food items/meals based on cyclical menus and daily production schedules, while maintaining a high standard of food safety, preparation accuracy, service and cleanliness. All community meals will be created on-site at 9 Huntley. Specifically, this position will create
When scheduled to work a shift, the relief employee is responsible for preparing and serving three (3) meals per day, as needed, for up to 20 residents at the 9 Huntley site. Meals must be planned and prepared with appropriate consideration of residents' individual nutritional needs and dietary requirements.
Prepares all required prep food for the next day/weekends
Assists the Food Services Lead with developing/planning menus and if needed, budgets, for Fife House's Food Services' communal meals
Assists with serving meals to residents at 9 Huntley site
Assists with delivery of all residential communal meals to other service sites, when needed
Assists with creating and delivering meals (when deemed appropriate), as well as necessary clean-up for all social enterprise catering requests
Client Life Skill Development & Supports
Involves residents and volunteers with all aspects of food preparation, such as menu planning, when appropriate/needed, as needed
Contributes to the home-like atmosphere through interacting with residents and participating in leisure activities, when available
Logistics and Supply Chain:
Assists with organizing and distributing Fife House's Bread Delivery program and Second Harvest donations
Records and maintains all food and equipment temperature records as outlined by Toronto Public Health standards and guidelines
Ensures cleanliness of kitchens at 9 Huntley, such as cleaning and sanitization of all kitchen equipment and appliances (i.e. equipment used in food preparation, etc.)
Ensures additional cleaning, disinfecting, and organizing of the Dining Room and related Food Service' spaces
Assists with receiving and putting away all groceries and Food Services related deliveries. Includes labeling and repackaging/storing ingredients
Assists Food Services Coordinator with inventory management
Assists with shopping and supply orders, when needed
Data Management:
Completes statistical data entry related to Food Services activity monthly
Human Resources:
Assists with training any Food Services volunteers and placement students, when needed
Administrative Expectations:
Attend staff meetings
Mandatory attendance of annual performance reviews, bi-monthly supervisions, and relevant training
Sets annual performance goals in consultation with the supervisor
May attend conferences and workshops, as money and time permits, and as arranged with their supervisor
Performs other duties as assigned, which may include helping out with Fife House events/programming
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum 2-years' experience working with larger scale food preparation, working in catering, and creating healthy and nutritious meals
Good working knowledge and commitment to harm reduction, risk reduction, equity and diversity, anti-racism and anti-oppression principles and practices
Ability to modify menus for therapeutic/nutritional-based diets, when directed
Ability to work effectively in independent settings as well as within a team
Valid Food Handler's Certificate, First Aid/CPR (or able to obtain within 3 months)
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to maintain a cooperative working environment
ASSET:
Experience with record-keeping, electronic filing, and scheduling
Frontline and/or volunteer experience in community-based settings and Toronto-based agencies including lived experience with being homeless/street-involved
Knowledge of HIV infection in the current context, including the impact of stigma and discrimination
Experience working with people who come from diverse racial, gender, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds and who have experienced varying degrees of mental health, social isolation, and substance use
Knowledge of Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and skill training.
