The Food Services Assistant plays a key role in supporting daily food service operations by ensuring high standards of food preparation, safety, and service.
This role is primarily focused on preparing, organizing, and serving meals while maintaining a safe and hygienic kitchen environment. Secondary responsibilities include supporting overall facility readiness and cleanliness to meet operational and study requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities
Food Handling & PreparationPrepare and portion meals according to established menus, dietary needs, and quality standards
Assist with daily meal service including setup, serving, and monitoring meal distribution
Follow all food safety, handling, and sanitation procedures in compliance with public health guidelines
Ensure proper storage, labeling, and rotation of food items (FIFO method)
Maintain food quality control by monitoring freshness, temperatures, and expiry dates
Clean and sanitize kitchen areas, preparation surfaces, and equipment regularly
Conduct daily and weekly kitchen inventory and ensure necessary supplies are stocked
Communicate any food or equipment shortages promptly to leadership
Facility SupportSupport basic setup and organization of clinical and participant areas (e.g., making beds, removing garbage, resetting rooms)
Assist in light cleaning responsibilities within shared facility areas, including cafeteria, linens room, and boardroom
Maintain accurate, complete, and timely data entry for inventory and cleaning logs
Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) for facility maintenance and safety
Assist in onboarding and supporting new team members as required
Occasionally lift or move materials and equipment up to 25 lbs
Perform other duties as assigned to support facility operations
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required
Food Handlers Certification or willingness to obtain (strongly preferred)
Experience in food preparation, food service, or related environment an asset
Knowledge of food safety guidelines and sanitation standards
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Reliable, organized, and attentive to detail
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Flexible availability, including rotating shifts, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
* Basic computer skills for inventory and data logs an asset
