Overview

BGC South East is currently seeking a

Food Service Assistant

to support our Cafe Manager and team with the day-to-day operations of our community cafe.

The ideal candidate will help maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary workspace, assist with food preparation, and provide excellent customer service using our POS system. This position plays an important role in maintaining and developing high-quality, sustainable food service operations that serve staff, guests, and BGC members.

Key Responsibilities

Plan, prepare, and deliver wholesome meals in consultation with the Supervisor, following Health Regulations and Canada's Food Guide. Practice safe food handling and storage procedures. Maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen, pantry, and storage areas. Assist with cafe sales and other revenue-generating projects. Serve food and assist customers courteously. Operate a Point of Sale (POS) system and handle cash. Support cafe operations when the Cafe Manager is away. Open and close the kitchen, ensuring all equipment is properly shut down and stored. Work collaboratively as part of a diverse and inclusive team. Act as a positive role model for BGC South East in the community.

Job Requirements

Minimum 2 years of kitchen and food industry experience. Valid

WHMIS

and

Food Handler

certificates (or willingness to obtain). Up-to-date

TDP (TDAP/Adacel/10-year booster)

and

MMR

immunizations.

Criminal Reference Check (including Vulnerable Sector Check)

completed within the last 6 months.

CPR/First Aid - Standard Level C

certification.

Job Specifications

Ability to work independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision. Strong mentoring and teamwork skills. Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Comfortable working in a fast-paced and child/youth-friendly environment. Flexible and adaptable to changing situations.
