Job Description

Scholtens Candy is recruiting a Food Safety Coordinator. Scholtens is well known for its Cottage Country branded candies, nuts and trail mixes. Products are premium quality, are packed fresh and delivered fresh every day from coast to coast.

Key Responsibilities

HACCP & Food Safety Program Management:

Develop, implement, verify, and maintain the company's HACCP plan and all prerequisite programs (e.g., GMPs, Sanitation, Allergen Control, Pest Control).

Health & Safety Program Support:

Assist in the implementation, maintenance, and monitoring of the facility's

Occupational Health and Safety (OHS)

program. This includes conducting facility safety inspections, assisting with job hazard analyses, and ensuring compliance with all local, provincial, and federal safety regulations (e.g., OHSA).

On-the-Floor Quality Control:

Act as the primary QA presence on the production floor, performing routine checks on incoming materials, in-process production, and finished products to ensure they meet all specifications (e.g., weight checks, seal integrity, label accuracy).

Audit & Regulatory Participation:

Participate and assist the facility in preparation for third-party audits (e.g., SQF, BRC) and act as the main contact for regulatory agencies (CFIA). Ensure the facility is audit-ready at all times.

GMP Enforcement & Training:

Monitor and enforce compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and

safe work procedures

throughout the facility. Train and coach employees on all food safety, quality,

and workplace safety

procedures.

Documentation & Corrective Actions:

Meticulously manage all food safety and quality documentation. Investigate any deviations, customer complaints,

or workplace incidents/near-misses

, identify root causes, and implement effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs)

Operational QA Tasks:

Identify and quarantine non-conforming products, collect samples for testing, and perform daily calibrations of quality control equipment (scales, thermometers).

Continuous Improvement:

Stay current on food safety regulations and industry best practices to drive continuous improvement in our quality and food safety culture.

Qualifications & Skills

Post-secondary degree or diploma in Food Science, Microbiology, or a related field.

HACCP certification is required

.

PCQI certification or knowledge of GFSI standards (SQF or BRC) is a strong asset. Additional certification or training in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., Joint Health and Safety Committee certification) is a significant asset.

Preferred Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in a food safety and quality assurance role within the food manufacturing or packaging industry.

Proven, hands-on experience working directly on a production floor.

Strong leadership skills with experience leading audits and training staff.

Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

Excellent problem-solving abilities and communication skills.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs (11 kg).
