We are a family-owned business dedicated to producing high-quality ice cream products. Our plant is currently CFIA, BRC, and Peanut-free certified. We are looking for a dedicated, reliable, and detail-oriented individual to join our team on a
term
basis to cover parental leave.
The Product Developer requires a blend of creativity, technical expertise, and regulatory knowledge to drive innovation, while adhering to government regulations and industry standards for ice cream and food manufacturing. This position requires collaborating closely with various departments including QA, production, and management to develop recipes for clients or bring new products to market successfully.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in food science or related field is a must.
Experience in research and development, preferably in the food industry.
Knowledge of Government of Canada regulations and standards related to food production.
Experience with nutritional systems such as Genesis (ESHA) is preferred.
Previous QA experience and familiarity with HACCP plans and prerequisite programs is an asset.
Strong formula and calculation skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Personable and professional demeanor with strong communication skills in both verbal and written in English.
Organized with the ability to multitask and problem solve efficiency.
Proficiency in computer software including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and online portals.
Innovative and creative mindset with a passion for food and nutrition.
Duties
:
Develop new food products in accordance with CFIA regulatory, BRC standards, and customer guidelines, leveraging research and development experience.
Conduct thorough research to understand and interpret Government of Canada regulations, including CFIA, Health Canada, and Safe Foods for Canada standards.
Substantiate claims and requirements for new products through comprehensive research and documentation and applicable certification bodies where required.
Scale formulas and integrate the development process into full production, ensuring accuracy and food safety compliance.
Create and maintain detailed documentation records on product development, including formula creations, test samples, regulatory limits, claims, labelling, and shelf-life.
Evaluate finished product shelf-life samples and collaborate with quality control to ensure stability and long shelf-life of formulas by doing cut tests, pictures and validations.
Present findings regularly to key stakeholders including the President, VP, Plant Manager, and QA department as required.
Create test samples for paneling and testing of formulas.
Conduct panels to evaluate feedback and make necessary changes to formulas based on results.
Perform updates as required and report relevant information to stakeholders responsible for the next steps in the process.
Develop nutritional and package labeling as per regulations for the country of sale using Genesis program.
Research, contact, and obtain samples from suppliers as required, ensuing proper documentation and information for supplier approval.
Investigate and follow up on customer complaints for product developments, working closely with the QA department.
Liaise with government inspectors for clarification on new developments and ensure compliance with HACCP plans and prerequisite programs.
Conduct product development checklists from start to finish, ensuring information is sourced from other departments as needed to ensure full completion is achieved before first production.
Work with QA department regarding quality and food safety issues.
Update and monitor customer portals for new and existing products, maintaining accurate information and documentation.
The position is 40 hours a week, Monday to Friday. Flexibility is required.
