Position Overview

The Centre for Career and Personal Development within Student and Enrolment Services is currently seeking a Full-time Limited Term Food Hub Coordinator for approximately 2 years.

Reporting to the Director, Centre for Career and Personal Development (CCPD) the Food Hub Coordinator provides daily supervision and operational direction to establish responsive and appropriate food hub programs and services in alignment with identified food security objectives and key results and operational requirements. This role will provide support and build a cohesive approach within the food hub including supervising student staff and several volunteers. This is a full-time role with the primary work location within the food hub, as such, this role is not eligible for a remote work schedule. This is a two-year position, with the possibility of extension subject to funding availability.

The Food Hub Coordinator is responsible for providing daily support and oversight to ensure the food hub operates smoothly and involves relevant programming that optimizes the space and resources available within the food hub. The Coordinator\'s key responsibilities include managing the campus food hub, liaising with key food hub partners, and integrating principles of food justice into all aspects of the Food hub. The Coordinator is responsible for the planning, delivery, management, and record keeping pertaining to the Food hub. The Coordinator is tasked with liaising with current Food hub partners and establishing new partnerships. The Coordinator will contribute to the ongoing development of a strategic plan to enhance food security for students. The Coordinator is responsible for training and supervising a team of student staff and volunteers. Strong judgement is required for discretionary decision-making regarding services, daily operations, and partner engagement. Experience with project management and the ability to effectively lead a team are essential functions of this role.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Manages, provides support, and builds a cohesive team within the food hub including supervising student staff members and several volunteers;
  • Trains staff and volunteers and ensures team maintains applicable standards in service delivery and programming;
  • Maintains relationships with key food hub partners, including the Students Union and Graduate Students Association, and establishing and leading regular meetings and communication updates;
  • Develops and strengthens beneficial food hub relationships by building connections with student-groups, campus programs and departments and community partners.
  • Develops food justice, equity, and community development programing and values into the day to day operations of the food hub;
  • Oversees the smooth delivery of the food hub programs including the community fridge program;
  • Develops data management plans to ensure activities and key results are tracked;
  • Works with the Director to create an annual budget;
  • Manages food hub budget, including tracking, reconciling, and reporting to funders and partners on progress;
  • Supports the successful launch of the food hub by contributing to the development of the project implementation plan and budget, food hub handbook and standard operating procedures;
  • Acts as the first point of contact for local food businesses and potential partners;
  • Works with the Director, CCPD and other partners to pursue funding models, revenue streams and fundraising/grant opportunities to support the long-term financial sustainability of the food hub.
  • Coordinates food sourcing, recovery, and distribution with campus and community partners;
  • Oversees all food hub operations in coordination with food hub partners, ensuring all facility components function optimally;
  • Ensures that the facilities are clean and maintained according to food hub policies and procedures;
  • Ensures that all operations are in alignment with required permits;
  • Establishes and updates standard operating procedures for the food hub;
  • Assists with all required inspections;
  • Communicates effectively with community partners and food hub users;
  • Coordinates social media, photo collection, website, stories and in person promotion and education.
Qualifications / Requirements:
  • Undergraduate degree in community development, human services, social services and/or equivalent experience in project coordination;
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working/volunteering in food security or in a human service field and knowledge of food security issues facing vulnerable populations;
  • Experience in coordinating and working with diverse volunteers of all ages;
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, administrative, networking, leadership and communication skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects independently and collaboratively;
  • Solid financial, funding, budgeting, reporting, and evaluation management skills;
  • Ability to strengthen, maintain, and grow partnerships with stakeholders and community organizations;
  • Independent, self-motivated and self-directed;
  • Ability to work with Office365 and other computer programs;
  • Food safe certification (considered an asset);
  • First aid certification (considered an asset).
