Job Summary:The Folder Operator is responsible for setting up and operating folding equipment to meet the folding requirements of printed materials in accordance with job specifications and company quality standards. This position works closely with other production team members to complete all folding tasks accurately and efficiently, ensuring projects are finished on time and to the required specifications.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Read and understand the docket/job ticket and all job requirements.
Perform all folder functions including set-up and operation of the folder to fold, slit, and score printed sheets into signatures for binding.
Feed product into the machine and perform visual inspection for defects; run samples to ensure alignment and image area accuracy.
Monitor the quality of the product on a constant basis throughout the folding process and adjust machine settings as necessary to address issues such as jamming, wrinkling or tearing.
Load folded product on to the proper skids to move on to the next production stage.
Clean and maintain equipment and work area; sort rejects as needed.
Troubleshoot and conduct minor repairs on machinery as able.
Operate other finishing equipment as required based on experience and production needs.
Follow all safety procedures regarding the operation and maintenance of equipment and comply with Company safety policies.
Qualifications and Skills:
High school diploma or vocational/technical certificate.
Previous experience working in a bindery environment operating folding machine is considered an asset.
Working knowledge of set-up, adjustment, procedures, capabilities and limitations of equipment used to fold printed material.
Familiarity with different paper weights, sizes, types and conditions to identify adjustments needed.
Mechanical aptitude and skill adjusting powered machines using hand tools.
Ability to perform basic math (decimals, metric units) and read/interpret written work orders.
Exceptional dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
Reliable attendance, punctuality and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Positive attitude, excellent focus and attention to detail.
Ability to repeatedly lift up to 50 lbs and stand/walk up to 8 hours or more per day.
