DESCRIPTION:

The Early Childhood Educator Assistant assists and supports the Primary CASA Educator in preparing and maintaining the environment in which the Montessori approach to education is implemented. The Teacher Assistant is directly accountable to the Montessori Teachers and Executive Director and further the Board of Directors.

DUTIES:

Support the work of the Teacher Assist in cleaning and dusting the environment, re-filling supplies and properly storing all classroom supplies. Supply requirements and needs regarding this responsibility will be discussed with the Teacher. Assist with additional cleaning and maintenance of the Daily Sanitization Schedule per the NWT Montessori Society's Covid-19 Procedures. Assist with screening in families each day upon arrival per the NWT Montessori Society's Covid-19 Procedures. Assist with the care and maintenance of the classroom and materials; maintaining an orderly environment and keeping the classroom clean and in good condition. Assist in the preparation of curriculum materials as directed. Repair materials and equipment as necessary or directed. Assist with supervision of lunch and snacks Phrase directives positively when speaking with children. Work with individual and small groups of children as direct by the Teacher. Share the responsibility for the safety and physical well-being of the children at all times. Children are not to be left unattended and classroom ratios must be maintained. Two people must be on supervision at all times inside and outside. Monitor children when using washroom facilities outside of the classroom Help maintain strong relationships with parents, characterized by mutual respect and good will. Help with the maintenance of current and accurate classroom records. Report any and all accidents and incidents at once. Prepare a written report stating date, time and nature of the accident and incident and the action taken. Ensure that the Primary CASA Teacher is aware of the accident/incident. In conjunction with the Primary CASA Teacher and other Teacher and Classroom Assistants supervise the execution of fire drills. Ensure the routine is clearly established and the building exited with dispatch and order. Share questions and observations with the Teacher. Assist with other projects, programs, and planning initiated by the Primary CASA Teacher and Executive Director. Understand and exhibit a responsible, accountable and professional behavior when dealing with students, other staff members, parents, the Board of Directors and the public. Inform the Executive Director of any matters that require attention. The employee is required to participate in the Montessori Community and events, including certain of those that occur outside normal school hours, including, but not limited to the following: Promotion of the school (i.e., Trade Show); Child/Parent nights; Open House Events; Fundraising events; Periodic attendance at Board meetings and staff meetings; Parent Information Sessions; NWT Montessori Society Annual General meeting.
SAFETY AND LEGAL REQUIRMENTS

The employee is required to hold valid and current certificates in:

First Aid; Child Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and an Up to date immunization record (i.e., tuberculosis screening, etc.).
Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 8 months

Pay: $34.20-$37.50 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week

Work Location: In person
