Job Overview


We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Shelter Worker to join our team. The Shelter Worker plays a vital role in providing support and assistance to individuals experiencing homelessness or crisis situations. This position requires a strong commitment to helping others, as well as the ability to maintain a safe and welcoming environment within the shelter. The ideal candidate will have experience in social services or hold a diploma in mental health and addictions.

Responsibilities



Provide support and assistance to shelter residents, addressing their needs with empathy and respect. Ensure the safety and well-being of all residents by maintaining a clean and organized environment. Facilitate communication between residents and external and internal service providers, including caseworker and outreach resources. Conduct intake assessments for new residents, gathering necessary information to provide appropriate support. Organize and lead group activities or workshops that promote personal development and community engagement. Maintain accurate records of resident interactions, incidents, and services provided in compliance with organizational policies. Collaborate with other team members to develop strategies for improving shelter services and resident outcomes.

Experience



Background in social work, Mental health and addictions diploma or related field. Experience working with vulnerable populations, particularly those facing homelessness or crisis situations. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups of people. Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle challenging situations with professionalism.
