Position Summary



The Fleet Manager will oversee the maintenance, compliance, and operational efficiency of a diverse fleet of over 180 vehicles, including light-duty transit vans, medium-duty 5-ton straight trucks, and heavy-duty semi-trucks and trailers. This role will also manage warehouse material-handling equipment such as 3-wheel and 4-wheel electric counterbalance forklifts and walk-behind power jacks.

The Fleet Manager will lead a team of three technicians, including a Team Lead, ensuring that preventive maintenance programs, repair schedules, and compliance requirements are met. The role may also involve oversight of minor facility maintenance projects to support seamless operations.

Key Responsibilities



Fleet Maintenance & Operations



Develop, implement, and monitor preventive maintenance schedules for all vehicles and equipment. Oversee and approve all repair work (purchase orders), ensuring quality, cost-effectiveness, and minimal downtime. Maintain accurate maintenance and service records for all assets, ensuring compliance with federal, provincial, and municipal regulations. Coordinate vehicle inspections, licensing, registrations, and insurance renewals. Monitor fleet performance, fuel consumption, and operational costs, providing recommendations for optimization. Evaluate vehicle costs/condition for decommissioning as well as review operational needs with COO to plan for the purchase of new vehicles

Team Leadership & Management



Supervise a team of 3 technicians, including a Team Lead, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback. Allocate workload effectively to ensure timely completion of maintenance tasks. Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement within the team.

Compliance & Safety



Ensure all vehicles and equipment meet Alberta Transportation regulations and company safety standards. Oversee driver vehicle inspection reports (DVIR) and ensure corrective actions are completed promptly. Conduct regular audits of fleet maintenance processes to ensure adherence to compliance standards. Review HOS logs to ensure accuracy and compliance

Budgeting & Procurement



Prepare and manage the annual fleet maintenance budget. Source, evaluate, and manage relationships with vendors, service providers, and parts suppliers. Recommend asset replacements or upgrades based on lifecycle analysis.

Facility Support



Coordinate and oversee facility maintenance and repairs as required. Liaise with facility management teams to address operational needs impacting fleet and warehouse equipment.

Qualifications



5+ years of progressive fleet management experience, preferably within logistics, transportation, or warehousing. Strong knowledge of light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles, as well as warehouse material-handling equipment. Demonstrated leadership skills, with experience managing maintenance teams. Proficient in maintenance management systems (MMS) and telematics software. Strong understanding of Alberta Transportation regulations, CVIP requirements, and safety compliance standards. Excellent organizational, budgeting, and vendor management skills. Valid Class 5 driver's license (Class 1 or 3 considered an asset). Journeyperson certification in a mechanical trade (asset, but not required).

Work Environment & Physical Requirements



Combination of office, workshop, and yard environments. Occasional travel within Alberta to inspect fleet and vendor sites. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in various weather conditions when inspecting equipment.
