POSITION SUMMARY

Garden River First Nation administers a variety of programs and services. Various department managers oversee their individual programs and overall administrative duties are overseen by a Chief Administrative Officer who is directly responsible to the Council who in turn, are responsible to the membership.

Garden River First Nation is looking for a Fixed Asset Specialist that will be responsible for managing and maintaining Garden River First Nation's (GRFN) fixed assets, such as buildings, equipment, and machinery

The Fixed Asset Specialist is responsible for managing and maintaining Garden River First Nation's fixed assets, such as buildings, equipment, and machinery.

The Fixed Asset Specialist functions within legislative requirements, regulations, policies and procedures and the Mission, Beliefs and Vision of the Garden River First Nation, and contributes to the accomplishment of the strategic priorities.

What you will do

Carrying out financial and clerical functions in a confidential capacity in support of the work of the Controller.

Identifying and recording the cost of newly added fixed assets,

Tracking existing fixed assets (tangible or intangible)

Calculation and recording amortization of the company's assets

Tracking and recording the disposal of fixed assets

Conducting periodic physical inventory checks and reconciling asset accounts (develop and maintain internal controls for asset management)

Preparing reports for management and assisting in audits

Keep up to date on all relevant accounting standards and regulations

Collaborating with other departments to ensure the physical assets of GRFN are properly utilized and maintained.

Assist with insurance renewals by having up to date asset valuations

Maintain policy on asset disposals and sales

What you can bring to the role

Degree or Diploma in Business Administration, Accounting or Finance.

Minimum experience required - two years in related field.

Possess strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles

Ability to use good judgment in assessing priority situations

Strong knowledge and experience with fixed assets and General Ledgers

Excellent computer skills (including MS Office Products, Outlook and Sage 300). Development of spreadsheets and graphs to assist in financial analysis.

Strong computational and mathematical abilities.

Knowledge, understanding and experience of First Nation culture, values, and traditions

Excellent organizational, time management and communication skills.

Ability to work under pressure to meet deadline.
