Located in Barrie and reporting to the Manager, Fitness and Wellness, the incumbent will assist with the development, planning and implementation of fitness programs and services and act as a lead contact for the daily fitness centre services and programs. The incumbent will provide functional guidance to student staff on a daily basis and ensure the facility meets and adheres to Health and Safety regulations. The incumbent will be the first point of contact for any questions or concerns by members regarding the Get Active Questionnaire. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with and supporting the planning and implementation of fitness programs and special projects (Fitness and Healthy Living Challenges, 30 for 30, Healthy Living, holiday themed activities, "learn to" sessions, team-building activities, etc.)
  • Conducting fitness classes, technique sessions and wellness briefings (i.e. 24hr movement guidelines, etc.)
  • Providing daily orientations and general fitness guidance to customers/members (spotting, group or individual instruction)
  • Providing one-on-one and group personal training sessions as well as completing fitness evaluations for members and developing personalized fitness plans
  • Securing and arranging backup instruction to any changes to the group fitness schedule, personal training appointments and for student staff changes/no shows for the fitness centre
  • Conducting fitness classes for customers or fill in for a personal trainer
  • Assisting with scheduling fitness instructors, personal trainers and student staff; makes necessary scheduling changes
  • Entering payroll information / time entry for fitness instructors, personal trainers and student staff
  • Monitoring the maintenance program and cleaning requirements within the Fitness Centre and ensuring Health and Safety procedures are followed
  • Providing onboarding to student staff and demonstrating safe use of fitness equipment, minor equipment maintenance and cleaning procedures
  • Conducting and tracking weekly, monthly and annual fitness equipment inspections and inventory and ensuring damaged equipment is removed from floor where required or appropriate signage (out of order) is in place and making service calls to rectify damaged equipment
  • Compiling monthly and yearly participation reports of fitness classes, specialty programs and fitness centre usage and recommending future programming opportunities
  • Ensuring the fitness room (MPR) is set-up to meet the needs of the class and that equipment is available for use and that members and the facility adheres to policy and procedures for facility numbers and proper equipment use
  • Assisting with fitness bookings, room set up and equipment requests made by college departments and external user groups
  • Completing and submitting injury report forms to Health and Safety and informing manager(s) of the incident
  • Preparing and submitting purchase requisitions for the purchase of supplies
  • Providing customer service to all members to ensure they are satisfied with the equipment and programming
  • Providing support and functional guidance to the front desk staff regarding membership and personal training sales, POS system, ONECard activation and GAQ app issues
  • Reviewing Get Active Questionnaire (GAQ), and providing guidance and next steps for members and reviewing GAQ medical clearance and doctors notes to determine access to facility and or membership privileges as outlined by the manager
  • Assisting with the development of Fitness social media posts and online content
  • Assisting with conducting student, staff and community member satisfaction and evaluation assessments to provide input on program renewal
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Successfully completed a two-year postsecondary diploma in Fitness and Health Promotion or another related field
  • Personal Training and Group Fitness Certifications: CSEP-CPT (Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology - Certified Personal Trainer) and/or CANFITPRO CPT (Certified Personal Trainer) and FIS (Fitness Instructor Specialist)
  • Must possess, and maintain, current First Aid Certificate, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification
  • A minimum of one year of experience working in a fitness environment either in a community gym or recreation centre
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate participants and sustain high energy throughout class
  • Proven ability to use different fitness equipment effectively and instruct customers on its use
  • Will be required to work afternoons/evenings and some weekends (35 hours made up of weekday shifts 2:00-10:00pm)
