The Fitness Centre Attendant will support the day-to-day operations of the Fitness Centre, promotes, and provides information to members and guests of the Fitness Centre and maintains a clean and safe environment for all users of the facility. The Fitness Centre Attendant supports the Coordinator Strength & Conditioning in program execution and delivery with clients.
The Fitness Centre Attendants with AFLCA Certification will teach fitness classes as requested by the Fitness Centre Operations Coordinator. The Fitness Centre Attendant will provide excellent customer service to all patrons and guests of the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre (GWHCGC) and will also guide members with "How To" sessions approved by the coordinator.
Position Responsibilities
May be tasked to do any of the following duties:
Facility & Equipment Maintenance
Opens and closes Fitness Centre as per posted operating hours, cleans equipment, and returns equipment to designated areas.
Assists with facility & equipment maintenance by advising their supervisor of any machines and or/equipment that require service.
Advises the Coordinator of any needs related to equipment/cleaning supplies etc. for the fitness Centre.
The Fitness Centre Attendant is responsible for ensuring the day-to-day cleaning checklist is completed in the Fitness Centre. This will include mopping around the equipment, dusting, and other duties as required.
The Fitness Centre Attendant supports the Strength & Conditioning Coordinator in program execution and delivery with clients.
Operations & Customer Service
Monitors the safe and effective use of the Fitness Centre, running track, spin zone, squash courts, multipurpose room, movement studio and patio.
Provides exceptional customer service both on the phone and in person.
Ongoing understanding of the business of the Centre including a strong knowledge of facility layout, programs, facility bookings, public and special event schedules, and facility and website updates with the ability to communicate any of these to all members and guests of the centre.
Listen to client concerns with empathy and act appropriately with an empowered and customer experience driven response.
Provides information on fees, hours of operation, classes and assists with general promotion of all services within the Centre.
Uses technology and software systems to facilitate service and operations in the Centre including court bookings, classes, sales, individual program design, membership tracking etc.
Responsible for squash court bookings.
Promotes facility activities and supports the delivery of events.
Fitness Centre Attendants with AFLCA certification will teach Fitness Classes as requested by the Fitness Centre Operations Coordinator.
Fitness Centre Attendants with an AFLCA designation will design fitness programs for new members of the Centre.
Enforced rules and regulations of the Fitness Centre and the overall facility.
During peak periods, Fitness Centre Attendants may be asked to support the delivery of service throughout the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.
Health & Safety
The Fitness Centre Attendant is responsible for the Health and Safety of the Fitness Centre and the overall facility.
Demonstrates safe work practices by completing monthly workplace inspections, participating in facility fire and emergency evacuation drills, and ensuring safe work practices at the Centre as per Red Deer Polytechnic Emergency Response Plan.
Will activate emergency procedures as needed or as directed by their supervisor.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent to about 12 years of schooling
Customer Service background/above average oral communication skills.
Technical knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Safety Awareness, willingness to increase safety knowledge.
Ability to multi-task
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in health and wellness is preferred
AFLCA Certification is preferred

Benefits and Compensation Information
An additional 15% of the hourly rate in lieu of vacation, statutory holidays and benefits.
