WORK ENVIRONMENT:



Reel Obsession Sport Fishing offers all-inclusive fishing vacations and operates out of the remote village of Zeballos, BC located on the Northwest Coast of Vancouver Island. With a population of 120 year-round, this tiny seaside community is surrounded by mountains and sits on the mouth of the Zeballos Inlet.

You can expect to be working outside for most of your workday so best to be prepared for all weather conditions. This position is not scared to get messy or wet... or catch some sun on those hot, sunny days.

This position averages a 6-day work week with 1-day off per week. You can count on averaging 40-50 hours per week with daily split shifts. Staff schedules are made ahead of time and all land employees track their work hours via company timesheet. Our lodge has a max occupancy of 30 guests and is made up of six buildings: main lodge, cabin area, lodge guesthouse, guest social shack, staff grounds, plus a fuel dock and small marina.

This position's contract is available from approximately mid-May to approximately September 10-12th depending on lodge opening and closure dates, bookings/cancellations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:



Our team is looking for someone who is energetic, passionate about the outdoors, and one who enjoys being busy working in the remote wilderness. The successful applicant will hold strong characteristics of professionalism, accountability, and will have the aptitude to motivate themselves and work independently however, also work well within a close-knit team.

The main responsibilities include:

Provide maintenance support on lodge and dock grounds as required

Assist with general boat/ motor and dock maintenance (ie. Oil changes, cleaning and detailing of boats etc.)

Support with basic carpentry jobs

Provide support in the fish processing area ensuring compliance to all rules and regulations are meticulously met according to our provincial guidelines and standards

Execute all aspects of our fish processing sanitation plan and assisting with the organization of our fish freezer area's

Fuel dock attendee (Road gas/diesel, marked gas/diesel, and propane) *propane certification an asset but not required. We can get you certified prior to starting and will train further on site

Assisting guide team with dock arrivals and guest fish

Fish filleting and assisting the Fish Pro Supervisor and the RO team with other miscellaneous odd jobs

Gardening

On-the-job training is provided.

This position is responsible with abiding by the meticulous rules and regulations of the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) regarding packing, processing, and organizing of each boats' daily catch. Our successful candidate will be a detailed oriented person with strong leadership capabilities. A strong sense of differentiating the different species of west coast fish is an asset but not required. This position involves long unsupervised hours.

Valid Driver's License Required

COMPENSATION:

Starting wage is $20 per hour and is negotiable based on experience and qualifications

Excellent gratuities paid out weekly

Room and board included at no charge

This position has the opportunity of learning the ropes of a deckhand and guide. Our guides are passionate about teaching the skills needed to be a professional west coast guide and will take you out, when possible, if that is something that interests you
