First-year Engineering Lab and Logistics CoordinatorPrimary Purpose: The primary purpose of this position is to assist in the delivery of the first-year undergraduate program in the College of Engineering. The position will also support Quality Assurance Research and other research and scholarly activities within the program.Nature of Work: This position reports directly to the Director of the Ron & Jane Graham School of Professional Development. This position is a member of a team responsible for supporting and delivering the Engineering portion of the first-year undergraduate engineering and the General Engineering (GE) programs.This position will primarily involve management and coordination of the lab experiences in the program, as well as some lab instruction, lab equipment maintenance and development, Teaching Assistant supervision, capital equipment planning, program safety management, and course coordination. Labs will take place in courses on Statics, Dynamics, Circuits, Process Engineering, Design, Drawing & Sketching, CAD, Technical Communication, Research, Engineering Disciplinary Experiences, Professionalism and Ethics, and Matlab. The position responsibilities will also extend to logistical support for quality assurance studies and the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) within the program. Opportunities exist for the incumbent to keep up with evolving technology in educational software, learning lab equipment, and learning management systems. There is an expectation of the incumbent to be able to lift/move/push up to 25 lbs unassisted, and more than this with proper equipment and assistance as required.Typical Duties or Accountabilities:Responsible for setting up and running assigned laboratories, which contribute to undergraduate program development and delivery that is consistent with current practice and technologies.This includes activities such as

• instructing and/or supervising undergraduate laboratories;
• assisting in the development, planning, and documentation of new and existing undergraduate laboratories;
• setting up, maintaining, and upgrading undergraduate laboratory equipment and software tools; and
• training and supervising lab teaching assistants.

Support research within the first-year engineering program.This includes activities such as

• assisting in recruiting participants for quality assurance and SoTL studies;
• gathering data from such studies; and
• analyzing data from such studies.

Responsible for procurement, development, and/or maintenance of equipment in the first year engineering program.This includes activities such as

• achieving a high standard of functional availability for all equipment;
• sourcing, selecting, and purchasing equipment and supplies as needed;
• keeping up with and evaluating the latest software tools of relevance to the program; and
• helping prepare funding applications for equipment and software tool renewal opportunities.

Provide general and technical program support as requiredThis includes activities such as

• ensuring funds utilized are within budget allocation levels, are effectively stewarded, and used in the operation and maintenance of teaching and research laboratories;
• ensuring both university and college policies and procedures related to key accountabilities are adhered to;
• providing service and advice to students and other staff; and
• promoting the success of the program by responding to special needs.

Responsible for the development and maintenance of the highest level of laboratory safety standards.This includes activities such as:

• ensuring the highest level of compliance with all environmental, health and safety regulatory requirements are met;
• assessing and mitigating risks associated with operation of laboratories;
• participating in a department and the Local College Safety Committee; and
• supporting cross-College and cross-University safety standards (e.g. working towards elimination of redundant safety training modules in various units; working towards full recognition of safety training obtained in other university units or obtained outside the university).

Coordination of instructional and laboratory courses as assignedThis includes activities such as

• gathering, managing, and maintaining grades in learning management systems;
• answering questions from students about logistics and registration/enrollment issues; and
• assembling resources in preparation for course delivery.

Regularly engage in career development and growth opportunitiesThis includes activities such as

• attending lectures, seminars, workshops, and training courses on relevant topics such as learning management systems, other educational software, and lab equipment; and attending lectures, seminars, workshops, and training courses on teaching and learning, staff supervision, and course organization/coordination.

Education: A Bachelor\'s degree in Engineering is desired.The successful candidate will preferably have training and course experience in computer programming, mechanics, circuit analysis/design, and aqueous chemistry. Drawing & sketching and CAD skills would also be advantageous. Any training in teaching methods/education would be an asset.Experience: Having experience in instructing students and/or in running instructional labs is strongly preferred. Knowledge of software tools relevant to our First Year Engineering program, such as MATLAB, Canvas, Crowdmark, Mobius, Python, MS Office, and AutoCAD, would be an asset, as would experience working with mechanical lab equipment that requires set-up, maintenance, and repair. Past supervisory experience with design and/or instructional teams would also be an asset.Skills: Required skills include the ability to work within a team, think creatively and problem solve, work effectively with others, communicate effectively using good verbal, graphical, and written communication skills, be adaptive/versatile, and work on multiple projects with competing demands to meet deadlines. Ability to develop and maintain lab equipment.Department: College of Engineering

Salary: The salary range, based on 1.0 FTE, is $66,030.00 - 103,174.00 per annum. The starting salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
