What You\xe2\x80\x99ll Be Doing


The Senior Director, Non-Trading Market Risk Management has the mandate to lead the groups responsible for the \xe2\x80\x98second line of defense\xe2\x80\x99 governing the following areas of oversight:

  • Structural Interest Rate Risk (SIRR) and Asset Liability Management (ALM)
  • Non-Trading (Banking Book) Market Risk
  • Structural FX Risk
  • Subsidiary Oversight

The group actively partners with Treasury, other Capital Markets Risk Management colleagues, Capital Markets, core strategic business units (SBUs), and other infrastructure groups to provide effective challenge and produce key reports and metrics (e.g. NII and EVE sensitivities) for senior leadership and regulators to measure and validate CIBC\xe2\x80\x99s structural interest rate risk posture.
As the Senior Director, Non-Trading Market Risk Management, you will participate and co-ordinate the risk management governance of customer behavior assumptions used within ALM modelling, including, but not limited to, liquidation rates and partial prepayments of mortgages and customer loans, take-up ratios of mortgage commitments and rational exercise rates for customer cashable instruments. You will also be responsible for the oversight and analysis on deposit modelling for both interest rate sensitivity and stability.

  • Strong Leadership \xe2\x80\x93 You will take a leadership and collaborative role in ensuring the integrity of risk data and the continued development of comprehensive processes to capture and download of market risk data for firm-wide consolidation.
  • Relationship Building - To work with individual traders, Treasury team members and infrastructure units to ensure their understanding and commitment to evolving risk management methodologies. To conduct formal and informal training as required.
  • Collaboration and Partnership - Actively co-ordinate the implementation of systems and processes for the measurement and monitoring of market risks in Treasury and subsidiaries in Toronto, and globally, as part of a team.
  • Project Management \xe2\x80\x93 You will lead complex group-wide projects, contributing innovative thinking and an advanced analytical approach. You will also represent both Risk Management and CIBC at Canadian Bankers Association (CBA) meetings when topics relating to areas of oversight are tabled. This includes general discussions with peer institutions as well as CBA led reviews of regulatory updates and meetings with OSFI.

REQUIREMENTS

  • You can demonstrate experience. In highly specialized quantitative expertise, business knowledge and experience to influence and support the development, implementation and maintenance of market risk models. You have experience in the following areas - Structural Interest Rate Risk (SIRR), asset liability management (ALM), and balance sheet management.
  • Advanced knowledge of the Canadian and international interest rate (IR) derivatives markets, including practical knowledge of derivative instruments and the issues surrounding their pricing and risk management. A CFA/FRM/PRM designation is an asset.
  • You have a degree. You have a University degree in finance, mathematics, physics, engineering and/or related discipline.
  • You give meaning to data. You enjoy investigating complex problems and making sense of information. You communicate detailed information in a meaningful way.
