Job Description

KPCL is seeking an experienced 1st Cook with previous camp-based experience.

This position requires someone capable of leading and working alongside a small team, managing food inventory, adhering to high food safety standards, and creating a clean and positive environment for camp guests.

Where You'll Be Working



This position is located near Coronach, Saskatchewan.

KPCL operates camp facilities across Saskatchewan, and you may have the opportunity to work at one or more camp locations to meet operational requirements.

Responsibilities



What You'll Be Doing



Health & Safety Leadership

:

Actively participate in promoting and engaging others in a culture of safety, encouraging staff to operate in a safe and productive manner Ensure all kitchen operations adhere to food safety standards and cleaning practices to guarantee the health and well-being of guests Provide guidance and leadership to camp staff to maintain a high level of safety and productivity throughout daily tasks

Meal Planning & Preparation

:

Plan, prepare, and deliver meal services while leading the kitchen team in executing daily tasks Conduct a morning briefing with kitchen staff to ensure the day is organized, tasks are clear, and any issues are addressed Work closely with the 2nd Cook to pre-plan and execute menus, ensuring the necessary ingredients are available for meals, including defrosting items required for future services Keep accurate daily records of food inventory and temperatures, number of guests for meals, and other relevant documentation.

Inventory & Ordering

:

Order and receive groceries and cleaning supplies, working within an established budget to minimize food spoilage and waste Maintain accurate inventory records and conduct daily checks of food and supplies to ensure readiness for upcoming meal services Review changes in costs with Camp Services Manager and adjust ordering as necessary

Housekeeping & Facilities Maintenance

:

Oversee kitchen and housekeeping services, ensuring that materials and maintenance repairs are coordinated and executed efficiently. Provide guidance to the Camp General Helper on cleaning, inspecting facilities, and assisting in the kitchen as needed Provide guidance to the Camp General Helper for checking guests in and out of camp rooms, assisting with room inspections upon checkout, and updating the accommodations tracker Address and resolve maintenance requests on-site where possible or work with the Camp Services Manager for further action

Travel and flexibility

: Be prepared to work additional hours as necessary to meet the demands of the role. Some travel may be required at times.

Additional responsibilities

: Perform any other duties as assigned by the employer, adapting to the evolving needs of the organization.

Qualifications



What You Bring



Education

: Any certificates for cooking

Experience

: 3-5 years experience with menu planning, food preparation and cooking in a hospitality environment, previous experience working at remote camp facilities and overseeing staff is preferred

Teamwork

: Able to work well with others and provide support and guidance

Adaptability

: Quick to respond to changes while maintaining alignment with long term direction
