Duties

Parks Canada's National Fire Management Program is seeking a Fire Technician, who is reliable, motivated and capable. This role focuses on the development and support of weather systems, as well as SharePoint and Power BI solutions to collect data and generate reports. No previous wildfire experience is required; however candidates must possess a strong technical skillset.

EDUCATION



EDU1: Graduation from an accredited university program with an undergraduate degree in a natural science, geomatics or information management, OR an acceptable combination of education, training and experience related to the position.

EXPERIENCE



EX1: Experience in the analysis of data, technical reports, identifying critical issues;

EX2: Experience in database and reporting system development using systems such as SharePoint;

EX3: Experience in Resource Management Project development and support;

EX4: Experience in mapping development and support using software such as Google Earth, ArcGIS.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT



Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform and prescribed protective equipment; Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays, when required; Ability to safely work and travel under challenging conditions (e.g. various weather conditions, diverse terrain) for extended periods of time, and in isolated locations with limited amenities.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS



Maintenance of a valid driver's licence (Class G in ON, Class 5 in QC); Will be required to undergo and pass pre-placement and periodic Occupational Health Assessment for firefighters; Possession and maintenance of recent Standard First Aid certification (minimum); Ability to meet and maintain the Moderate Fitness standard as per the 'Work Capacity Fitness Testing Standard for Parks Canada Wildland Fireline Personnel'; Successful completion of ICS 100, ICS 200 and the Parks Canada Basic Wildland Fire Management Course.
