Position Overview:



We are seeking a skilled and dependable

Fire Suppression & Hood Cleaning Technician

to join our team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with kitchen fire suppression systems and commercial kitchen exhaust cleaning, as well as a strong understanding of NFPA codes and fire safety regulations. This role requires attention to detail, professionalism, and a commitment to maintaining safety and cleanliness in commercial and industrial environments.

Key Responsibilities:



Install, inspect, service, maintain, and repair kitchen and industrial fire suppression systems (wet and dry chemical). Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and manufacturer documentation. Clean and degrease commercial kitchen exhaust systems, including hoods, ducts, filters, and fans, to ensure optimal performance. Safely operate pressure washing and chemical cleaning equipment in accordance with company and industry standards. Set up containment and protect kitchen areas to prevent overspray or contamination. Perform pre- and post-cleaning inspections, including access panel checks, fan belts, and rooftop components. Inspect electrical and mechanical components of suppression systems to identify hazards, defects, or repairs needed. Identify deficiencies, hazards, or system issues and report findings to management and clients. Maintain accurate and detailed service documentation, including before-and-after photos and inspection reports. Ensure systems are compliant with NFPA codes and local fire regulations (especially NFPA 17, 17A, and 96). Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment. Work cooperatively with team members and communicate clearly and professionally with clients.

Qualifications:



Education: A high school diploma. Experience in kitchen exhaust cleaning and kitchen suppression systems. Knowledge of NFPA codes (esp. NFPA 10, 17, 17A, 96 and 1962). Valid City of Winnipeg Fire Prevention 35/2017 license. Valid Class 5 driver's license. Ability to work at heights, use ladders, and operate cleaning tools and pressure washing equipment. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, safety awareness, and reliability. Excellent time management and communication skills. Capable of working evenings or overnight shifts as required (most work is performed after business hours).

Additional Requirements:



Criminal Record Check (required before start). Vulnerable Sector Check (required before start). Clean Driver's Abstract (must be current within 30 days of application).

Assets (Not Required):



Certification or training through the Phil Ackland Power Wash Academy. Valid City of Winnipeg license for Commercial Cooking - Cleaning, Commercial Cooking - Inspection, Special Extinguishing Systems - Wet and Dry Chemical, Hose Systems, and/or Fire Extinguisher Servicing. Fire alarm experience or CFAA certification. Mechanical or maintenance experience. Experience working in commercial or industrial environments.
