With Caring and Vitality as two of our core values at Lambton College, you know you\'ll be joining a team of passionate and fun colleagues.About the Position:This is a casual / call in support staff Bargaining Unit position, reporting to the Associate Dean, School of Fire Science, Health and Community Services at a rate of $42.39/HR.The Fire School Lab Technologist provides technical firefighting support to post-secondary and industrial training labs and has the responsibility to ensure that all active participants on fire school grounds are using college assets safely, properly, and efficiently while supporting the users\' training objectives. The employee will be guided by SOG\'s, industry practices, manufacturer\'s instructions, and Fire School Campus usage guidelines. This employee will be responsible for ensuring that all participants conduct themselves safely to prevent injuries.Specific Accountabilities:

  • Ensures the proper usage of complex props and labs
  • Opens and secures facilities during regular business hours or after hours and on weekends as needed
  • Protects the college\'s assets and ensures the safety of students and users of the facilities and equipment
  • Maintains a record of activities and completes usage and safety related reports as required
  • Supports labs scheduled as part of post-secondary instruction or industrial training
  • May be required to open and secure the Fire School campus facilities
  • Reinforces learning objectives taught in theory courses
  • Demonstrates appropriate use of equipment and facilities
  • Demonstrates principles and theories of specialized knowledge in various learning activities
  • Clean-ups and disinfection of training equipment
  • Organizes complex statistical information and/or understands and applies the elementary principles of a science or a professional discipline.
  • Prepares and executes routine laboratory exercises showing the relationship between theory and test results
Qualifications:
  • 3-year Advanced Community College Diploma in Fire Science Technology or equivalent training:
NFPA 1001 Firefighter Training and Certification Level I & II and NFPA 1072 Hazardous Materials (Awareness and Operations) from a recognized institution accredited the by Internal Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or the Pro Board
  • Up to five years of practical experience is required, whether that is volunteer or p/t/ or f/t firefighter experience in a municipal fire dept or as part of an industrial brigade.

  • NFPA 1006 Technical Rescue Chapter 5
  • Copy of current Driver\'s License
  • NFPA 1041 Level 1, if applicable
  • Current Mask Fit Test, if available to you
  • Current EMR, if applicable
  • Firefighting academic diploma, if applicable
