The Pump Service Technician is responsible for the installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of pump systems and related equipment, both powered by electrical & diesel engine, in both residential and commercial settings. This role ensures that fire pumps are operating correctly to provide reliable and efficient performance in the event of a fire emergency. Technicians will also work closely with clients to explain system functionality, conduct regular preventive maintenance, and ensure compliance with local fire codes and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
:
Installation and Setup
:
Install new fire pump systems, controllers, and associated equipment per industry standards.
Verify correct installation and functionality in compliance with local building codes, fire safety regulations, and manufacturer's guidelines.
Inspection and Testing
:
Perform regular inspections, testing, and troubleshooting of fire pump systems to ensure proper operation.
Conduct flow tests, pressure checks, and mechanical inspections of fire pumps and associated components.
Record and document all tests, inspections, and maintenance activities.
Maintenance and Repair
:
Perform routine maintenance on fire pump systems, including oil change, lubrication, calibration, cleaning, and parts replacement.
Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair any malfunctions or failures in the fire pump system, including pumps, motors, valves, controllers, and electrical systems.
Ensure systems meet performance standards and industry regulations during servicing.
Client Education and Support
:
Communicate with clients to explain the operation and maintenance of fire pump systems.
Provide guidance on fire safety best practices and code compliance requirements.
Address any concerns or issues the client may have regarding system operation.
Documentation and Compliance
:
Maintain accurate records of all service activities, repairs, and inspections performed.
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as any relevant safety standards.
Submit service reports, inspection certifications, and recommendations to clients as required.
Emergency Response
:
Provide emergency service on-call to resolve fire pump system failures or issues outside of regular business hours.
Respond to service requests promptly and troubleshoot problems in emergency situations.
Skills and Qualifications
:
High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in fire pump systems or related field preferred.
Proven experience working with fire pump systems, fire suppression systems, or related mechanical/electrical systems.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
Knowledge of local fire codes, NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) standards, and relevant safety regulations.
Ability to work with tools, electrical systems, and mechanical equipment.
Ability to read blueprints and technical manuals.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Valid G driver's license with a clean driving record.
Complied to use company scheduling, billing & inventory management tools.
Physical Requirements
:
Ability to lift heavy equipment and tools (up to 50 lbs or more).
Comfortable working in confined spaces and at heights.
Ability to work in various weather conditions and environments.
Work Environment
:
Requires on-site travel to residential, commercial, or industrial locations all across Canada.
Potential exposure to hazardous environments; proper safety protocols must be followed at all times.
