Who we are searching for:



We are looking to add a Fire Protection Engineer to our work family. With support from our existing team, you will work primarily from your home office to start, then from our remote office in the St. John's area. You will review drawings and hydraulic calculations, conduct system analyses, and also assist operations as required by conducting periodic site surveys and field inspections at ongoing projects across Ontario and elsewhere in Canada. Note that as a result, this role will require occasional travel from Newfoundland to our head office in St. Thomas, ON both for work and training.

What you will work on:



Review and seal completed design documents (drawings and calculations) and letters; Provide technical support, value-added design evaluation, mentorship and continual developmental coaching to all team members; Work closely with all stakeholders, including the PFC team, fire protection contractors, general contractors, architects, consultants, building owners, local building officials, and fire inspectors to ensure the continued success of all projects; Using HydraCAD (for AutoCAD and / or Revit) and HydraCALC, you will design fire protection systems per project and code requirements, along with company and industry standards. You may periodically conduct pre-design site surveys to both gather information and examine the condition of existing systems for design specifications, drawings, and calculations. You may periodically conduct installation inspections of both in-progress and completed projects to ensure conformance with project and code requirements, as well as company and industry standards. Depending on your experience and current abilities, you will be tasked with other duties as appropriate.

What you need to bring:



Bachelor's degree in a related discipline (fire protection, mechanical, or construction); The ability to become registered as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario and other provinces as required. A minimum 3 years of experience in fire protection design. An equivalent combination of education and technical experience may be acceptable (situation dependant) Experience in the construction industry; Experience in a management or supervisory role; A knowledge and understanding of NFPA 13, NFPA 13R, NFPA 13D, NFPA 14, NFPA 20, as well as the NBC / OBC and NFC / OFC. An ability to read and interpret technical documents from all construction disciplines. Proficient in the use of AutoCAD and / or Revit as well as HydraCAD and HydraCALC, Microsoft Office, Google Drive / Sheets, and Bluebeam. A proven ability to prioritize, problem solve, be organized, and communicate clearly in a dynamic working environment. A proven ability to work successfully in both a remote and team environment; the fire protection industry is fast paced, therefore the ability to meet deadlines working remotely is critical. A valid drivers license. Ability to travel to jobsites throughout Ontario and Canada for vacation coverage;
