Job Summary

Our Fire Protection team is expanding, and we are eagerly looking to add creative problem solvers to our team. We have an opportunity for Fire Protection designer to join our small but mighty group in Vancouver!

As a Fire Protection designer, you will leverage your expertise in Revit & AutoCAD, collaborating with multiple disciplines to develop key designs for water-based fire suppression systems. You will gain exposure to complex, challenging projects across a diverse variety of building types. Projects range from residential high-rise buildings, through to technologically advanced facilities, such as hospitals, University campuses, government buildings and scientific research facilities.

You will be excited to develop your skills, under the mentorship of a supportive, collaborative team, and will be ready to take on responsibility for your projects, when required.

You will be a team player with the ability to receive and execute instructions from the Senior Designer or Project Manager/Team Leader with minimal supervision. Proficient operating knowledge of AutoCAD and hydraulic design programs are required.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • AutoCAD and/or Revit drafting and design operations
  • Provide technical assistance to the Senior Designers/Project Managers/Team Leaders as follows:
  • Maintain Design file
  • Fire Protection layout and drafting with minimal supervision
  • Fire Protection hydraulic calculations and design areas - to be checked by senior staff
  • Ensure Integral design checklist is being followed
  • Ensure Integral AutoCAD and/or Revit Standards are being followed
  • Maintain AutoCAD and/or Revit files
  • Prepare preliminary motor list with assistance provided by senior staff
  • Prepare equipment selections using Integral selection procedures with assistance provided by senior staff
  • Co-ordinate fire suppression requirements with other disciplines involved in the project design team (i.e. Architects, Structural Consultants, Electrical and Mechanical Consultants, etc.). Assistance will be provided by senior staff
  • Co-ordinate service requirements/connections with the respective utility and/or municipal agencies
  • Review and process shop drawings with senior staff
  • Assist in training junior staff and reviewing their work
  • Provide construction administration services as directed and supervised by senior staff
  • Write various reports as directed by senior staff
  • Attend site surveys with senior staff
Qualifications
  • Minimum 3 years AutoCAD experience coupled with 1 year design experience in Fire Protection systems including knowledge and experience of hydraulic designs
  • Professional experience in the use of Revit software
  • Ability to read and coordinate with Architectural, Structural, Electrical and Mechanical drawings with minimal supervision provided by senior staff
  • Fire Protection Water-Based System design \xe2\x80\x93 NFPA Technical Proficiency
  • Hydraulic Calculations - Technical Proficiency
  • Knowledge of acceptable Building Codes related to fire suppression systems
  • Knowledge of NFPA Standards for special suppression systems an asset
  • Knowledge of FM Standards pertaining to fire suppression system design an asset
  • NICET Level Certified an asset
  • HVAC and Plumbing design an asset
  • Fire Alarm and Detection design an asset
  • Knowledge of HVAC and Plumbing design an asset
  • Excellent communication skills \xe2\x80\x93 both written and verbal
  • Organizational skills
  • EIT or AScT classification is an asset
  • University degree or College diploma in Mechanical Engineering specialization is an asset
