Due to a vacancy, the Municipality of Grey Highlands is receiving applications to fill the permanent full-time position of Fire Prevention Officer/Public Fire & Life Safety Educator/CEMC/Fire Administration, Fire & Emergency Services. Reporting to the Fire Chief, the successful candidate will perform duties in accordance with departmental and corporate work plans and priorities.

What you will do:

Fire Prevention Officer

Conducts fire prevention inspections and enforces fire prevention regulations for residential, commercial and industrial properties.

Acts as an assistant to the Fire Marshal under the provisions of Part III, Section 11. (1)(c) of the Fire Protection and Prevention Act (FPPA), 1997.

Inspects and tests fire protection systems.

Completes Fire Inspection reports for review by the Fire Chief and disseminate appropriate parties.

Prepares reports, records, statistics, and correspondence.

Assists with the maintenance of asset inventories and databases.

Reviews and provides comments on municipal department submissions as they relate to the applicable Ontario Fire Code requirements.

Initiate prosecutions and provides testimony and evidence in court.

Monitors and assesses fire drills of schools, vulnerable occupancies.

Prepares compliance alternatives for approval by Fire Chief.

Provides fire prevention technical support and training for fire department.

Represents the interests of the municipality as a member of the Grey Bruce Fire Prevention Officers Association (GBFPOA).

Fire Administration Regular administrative activities, including reports, budgeting, invoicing, records management.

Community Emergency Management Coordinator (CEMC)

Responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of the municipality's emergency management program.

Fire and Public Safety

Develops and delivers public education programs to community groups.

Develops community engagement events.

Responds to public inquiries regarding fire and life safety.

Develops and distributes public safety information and promotional materials.

Provides information and assistance to the public, community agencies.

Conducts TAPP-C Juvenile fire setter screening and education.

Prepares news releases and public service announcements.

Creates and maintains reports and records on public education activities.

Prepares/creates standardized topical fire safety presentations for use by other fire department personnel.

What the ideal candidate will process:

Completion of the Ontario Fire College Public Fire and Life Safety Educator's

Certificate NFPA 1035 Level I with Levell II being considered an asset.

Completion of the Ontario Fire College Fire Inspector (NFPA 1031 Level I and II).

Working knowledge of the technical aspects of fire protection and life safety systems including, but not limited to, fire alarm, voice communication, sprinkler, hose and standpipe, emergency lighting and power, fire pumps, water supply and fire suppression systems, fire fighters' elevators, smoke control measures, the storage, use and handling of dangerous goods, hazardous processes and activities, storage configurations of commodities, as well as building construction and occupant types.

Completion of the OFMEM Basic Emergency Management (BEM), CEMC, and other related courses required to meet OFMEM compliance or willingness to obtain

A minimum of two (2) years' experience in a public education/training facilitator role, preferably within a municipal setting.

Completion of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Health Care Provider (CPR-HCP).

What we will require:

A Police Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check (VSS) satisfactory to the Municipality

Proof of current valid driver's license and clean Driver's Abstract

Proof of current and valid certificate(s) or educational qualifications, if applicable

Three valid references for a background check

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $36.25-$42.41 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 per week
