The District of North Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services (DNVFRS) is a mission-oriented emergency services agency focused on the safety and well-being of the community. With over 120 firefighters, command, training, and support staff at five fire stations, we serve the District's 160 square kilometres of urban and wilderness land, and our 82,500 residents. The DNVFRS is the first career department in BC and 9th in Canada to achieve Accredited Agency status with the Commission on Fire Accreditation International.
Position Overview

If you are a results-oriented individual dedicated to safety, the District of North Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services (DNVFRS) is looking to fill two temporary full-time positions of Fire Inspector, Public Safety Inspections & Investigations.
Reporting to the Captain - Public Safety, Inspections & Investigations, this is regulatory work related to the enforcement of Municipal, Provincial and Federal fire prevention codes, standards and related bylaws. You have solid knowledge of prevention practices and methods gained through related training and experience. Preference may be given to those with a Fire Prevention Inspector Certificate from the Justice Institute or equivalent, and other courses relating to public safety and community risk reduction.
Position 1 Term: September 1, 2025, to February 26, 2027, with potential of extension
Position 2 Term: October 15, 2025, to April 15, 2027
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications for Public Safety Lieutenant Rate:
A Fire Inspector who has worked in the Public Safety Division for a minimum of one (1) year and who has successfully completed the required courses/certificates will be paid at the rate of a Public Safety Lieutenant. Current course requirements are:
Local Assistant to Fire Commissioner- Office of the Fire Commissioner
NFPA 1031 Fire Inspector Level II - NFPA CFI-II or IFSAC/Pro Board
NFPA 1033 Fire Investigation Level I and II- JIBC or Pro-board
BC Fire Code Part 1 & 2- JIBC or BCIT
BC Building Code Part 3- BCIT
Class 5 driver's license
Course equivalency may be established by the Fire Chief for any of the courses listed above.

Monthly salary for this unionized position is $6,849 (2024 rates) based on a 35-hour, four-day work week. The successful candidate can attain the rank and pay of Lieutenant at $11,287 (2024 rates) after completion of one-year of service in the Public Safety Division and successful completion of Fire Inspector 2, and the employer identified courses. Flexibility may be required for scheduled and unscheduled hours after regular hours of work for fire investigation, public education, or special inspection call out duties.
