The Position

This position reports to the Finished Products Front Line Leader in Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada. The Finished Products Operator is responsible for safely preparing, packaging and loading the product on either railcars or trucks to ship the product to our customers. This is a routine, team-based position that can be challenging when dealing with environmental conditions and production goals. Team members must be improvement-focused, willing to work toward unit goals and find achieving results rewarding. The successful candidate will thrive in a team environment and enjoy routine expectations. In return, employees are provided ample training and are highly compensated. The shift schedule for this position is rotating 12-hour nights and days, with 14/28 days on shift, which provides employees a healthy work/life balance

The Grande Prairie mill is a 1000+ tonne per day Northern Bleached Softwood Kraft pulp mill, employees approximately 350 mill employees in a 24-hour operation.

Key Accountabilities

  • Focus on safety as a core value
  • Follow the 12 hour compressed work week schedule (shift work)
  • Flexibility to work overtime to provide shift coverage, attend business meetings and necessary training.
  • Training and support for site firefighting services.
  • Commitment to attain, maintain and apply Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) skills
  • Commitment to attain, maintain and apply all Dry End and/or Wet End process skills.
  • Operate forklift and a locomotive.
  • Operate Cutter and Bale Line equipment
  • Take process samples and accurately complete lab tests
  • Perform switchman duties in a rail yard.
  • Perform basic maintenance tasks
  • Stay current on safety, process and business information

Qualifications

Required qualifications include:
  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent experience
  • Willing and able to work overtime
  • Willing to work a compressed 12-hour shift (days and nights)
  • Strong self-motivation
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Application
  • Willing and able to work inside as well as outdoors in a hot, humid, cold and noisy environment
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to perform duties with little supervision
  • Proactive approach to troubleshooting/problem identification
  • Able to perform physically demanding work
  • Demonstrated safety awareness
  • The ability to work closely with others in a team environment.
  • Strong learning orientation and ability to adapt to change
Preferred qualifications include:
  • Fire Fighting certificate
  • EMR Certificate
  • Experience operating heavy equipment
  • Strong communication skills
  • Mechanical aptitude
