Job Description

Standard General Edmonton is looking for Roller Operators for seasonal full-time positions. Asphalt Roller operating experience of 3-5 years is required for this position.

The Finish Roller Operator's main purpose is to efficiently operate various models of asphalt rollers to provide adequate compaction and workmanship in asphalt paving. Experienced in all aspects of asphalt mix compaction including parking lots, residential subdivisions, collector and arterial roadways and highway work as well as to promote and participate in the Goal Zero initiative.

Key Responsibilities:

Positively participate in the Company safety program and adhere to all safety requirements Observe compaction speed / effort to compliment asphalt mix lay down production to ensure proper compaction and workmanship. Operate self-propelled steel-wheeled, rubber-tired, vibrator, segmented or other type of roller to compact asphalt surfaces. Distribute, break down, compress and give a finished surface to cooling asphalt. Other duties as required.
Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to work as part of a team Knowledgeable in all aspects of asphalt mix compaction in both breakdown and finish applications including necessary rolling patterns, compaction amplitudes, vibratory frequencies and asphalt mix temperatures to ensure specified densities and desired workmanship is achieved. Ability to work with up to four additional compaction roller operators. Ability to discuss and plan daily project paving procedures / goals with fellow paving personnel to maximize productivity and workmanship. Knowledge of rolling patterns and applications to achieve compaction and smoothness. Determine speed and direction of machine based on knowledge of compressibility of material under changing temperatures. Must be alert and able to work safely around moving road construction equipment Must have strong regard for ethics
Experience/Education:

High School Diploma or GED is required. Experience in the road construction industry is required. Valid Class 5 driver's license with own transportation is required.
