Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the Financial Literacy Specialist (BRIDGES) provides financial literacy and trusteeship supports for adults living with mental illness, ABI and addictions, and promotes and supports CMHA-NBD's mandate in the community.
Education and training:
Proof of successful completion of a post-secondary education in Social Services or related field
Requirements:
A negative Police Vulnerable Sector Check
A valid class G driver's license and proof of insurance
Daily access to a reliable vehicle
Current CPR certificate - level C or willingness to obtain
Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) training or willingness to obtain
Current Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) or willingness to obtain
Able to lift at a minimum 20 lbs. from squatting to standing position
Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset
Experience:
Minimum 1-3 years experience working with individuals living with multiple special needs and psychiatric disabilities with a good working knowledge of client focused budgeting process and governmental income support programs, i.e. O.D.S.P and
Ontario Works
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Basic working knowledge of computer software
Effective problem solving and decision-making skills
Proficiency in managing challenging behaviours
Excellent interpersonal/verbal/written communication skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality as per PHIPA (Personal Health Information Protection Act)
In conjunction with the client, prepares, monitors and assists in maintaining monthly budgets
Provides services to shared trusteeship clients related to financial trusteeship, including contact and advocacy with payees, income sources, agency financial personnel and banks and set up of utility hook-ups
Establishes and maintains good communications with associated community agencies and attends case conferences and supports client's rights and benefits in daily living situations through advocacy and liaison relationships with contacts
Assists and mediates for clients and negotiates with landlords, O.D.S.P, C.P.P., O.W., employers, Revenue Canada, businesses, and family
Refers clients to appropriate community services and resources
Participates in staff meetings, program development initiatives, approved training programs and supervisor evaluations
Maintains accurate, timely and detailed case notes, files and reports as required
Promotes mental health awareness and client's rights
