Established in 1982, Riverdale Immigrant Women's Centre (RIWC) is a community-based registered charity with a mission to empower equity-deserving groups and create flourishing communities by mobilizing resources and supports at the local and systemic levels. We provide a community-centred environment that recognizes Indigenous and 2SLGBTQ+ rights, confronts racism, including anti-black racism and Islamophobia, and welcomes all people.
RIWC is currently seeking to hire a Financial Educator to lead skills development activities for our new financial literacy program (Empower Women to Act). The Financial Educator will be responsible for delivering financial education workshops on accessing income benefits and providing one-to-one financial coaching/counseling for low-income, newcomer, and racialized women. Financial literacy workshops and activities will be delivered with a focus on meeting the literacy, linguistic, and cultural needs of diverse participants to promote peer learning and economic empowerment.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Collaborate with the Program Coordinator to develop program and resource materials (Canva decks, resource materials, referral lists, guest speaker lineup, etc.) to deliver financial literacy services at RIWC.
Develop/adapt materials for accessibility (low-literacy, multilingual).
Facilitate or co-host weekly financial education workshops (in-person and online).
Provide one-to-one financial coaching and support clients in navigating financial tools and developing stronger financial literacy skills.
Coordinate and facilitate peer support groups and group-based check-ins.
Provide guidance on budgeting, credit building, fraud protection, and benefits access.
Document participant progress and feedback for evaluation.
Participate in quarterly Project Advisory Meetings to provide updates on program activities.
Complete research and administrative tasks as needed to deliver program activities.
Attend program and RIWC meetings as needed.
Qualifications:
Degree/diploma in Finance, Economics, Adult Education, or related field.
2-3 years of experience delivering Financial Literacy/Education programs, Financial and Benefits Counselling/ Coaching
Knowledge of financial tools (mobile banking, Benefits Wayfinder, CRA programs, etc.).
Experience working with low-income, newcomer, or racialized communities.
Strong group facilitation and interpersonal skills.
Fluency in a second language is an asset (Bangla, Arabic, Hindi, Mandarin, Punjabi, Tamil, Urdu, etc.).
Proficiency with MS Office, Canva, Google Workspace, virtual meeting platforms (Zoom), and online survey tools (Google Forms, Survey Monkey, or Formester).
Demonstrated knowledge of the intersecting barriers faced by newcomer, racialized, and underserved communities.
