JOB DESCRIPTION:
The senior financial analyst position is accountable for the preparing draft financial statements for 2-5 companies monthly and writing a financial summary to stakeholders/shareholder of financial results and extraordinary items. Transactions on 3 of the companies are less than 20 per month. The position reports to the Financial Controller. The Senior Analyst reviews transactions and supports the Junior Financial analyst in the analysis of financial statements. The Senior analyst is involved in preparation of annual budgets. The scope of the senior analyst position also includes responsibility for cash management and risk management.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Financial analysis of financial statements
Preparation of financial statements monthly
Cash Management/ forecasting
Budgeting
Maintain financial department goals & objectives annually
Prepare intercompany transactions if necessary
Balance /reconcile intercompany accounts
Reconciliation of Bank accounts
Maintain the chart of accounts for the companies assigned
Maintain an orderly accounting filing system
Help to Prepare complex accounting transactions for entry
Provide costing revenue and information to senior executive team to support evidence-based decision making
Issue timely and complete internal financial statements and year-end preparation for external auditors
Provide financial analyses as needed, in particular for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations
Monitor debt levels and compliance with banking and other debt covenants
Comply with provincial and federal government reporting
Clear, concise written and verbal communication skills
Provide management with operational reports and trend analysis
Review leases, contracts, agreements, subcontracts, and licenses from accounting perspective
Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE
Managing processes, financial software, developing standards, audit, accounting, corporate finance, tracking budget expenses
QuickBooks and Sage 300 financial skills, analyzing information, developing budgets, preparing rolling forecasts & performance management against set indicators.
Solid understanding in all areas of accounting including A/P, A/R, general ledger, credit collections, audit, inventory control, payroll, budgeting, costing, P&L preparation and analysis, etc.
Excellent communication, both verbal and written a must. Ability to motivate individuals to achieve their full potential and instill a 'can-do' positive attitude in peers and employees alike.
QUALIFICATIONS
Accounting: 3 years of progressively responsible experience
Post-Secondary program in Accounting, Management Accounting, Business Management or equivalent
Preferred - Professional accounting designation requirement (CPA/CA/CMA/CGA)
Proficiency in QuickBooks and Sage Accounting 300 (AccPac) is definite plus.
