Summary:

The Financial Analyst Co-Op supports the finance team in Canada by performing a combination of Financial Accounting and Management Reporting activities within the organization. This role will support the site on a rotational basis in Operations Finance, Commercial Finance, Financial Planning & Analysis and Controllership to assist the teams on specific projects and tasks to deliver outstanding customer feedback.
Essential Functions:

  • Participate in month end close activities and act as a delegate for key tasks when needed
  • Gather documentation for the annual audit and tax review requirements
  • Review and reduce aged payables to improve Paid on Time metrics
  • Create and update standard operating procedures to ensure consistency across sites
  • Attend and review select inventory cycle counts
  • Perform an annual physical inspection of fixed assets and assist with the maintenance and clean-up of the fixed asset ledger
  • Develop a process to record and maintain client master data in the ERP
  • Review client contracts for standard language to maintain and enhance the tracking tool for finance/business management to improve portfolio margins
  • Provide support with annual client pricing reviews and conduct price audits to identify and help resolve discrepancies
  • Create a tool for forecasting accounts receivables as part of our monthly business review
  • Assist the team with the management of inventory and annual standard cost rollover calculations
  • Actively participate in tier meetings for either the manufacturing or packaging areas
  • Deliver financial and operational performance analysis, including product portfolio, to drive profitability using the Practical Process Improvement (PPI) Business System
  • Partner with business unit (BU) area managers to promote financial transparency and accountability
  • Drive BU performance through established metrics (Absorption, Materials Usage Variance, Purchase Price Variance, Direct Labour efficiency)
  • Work with BU area managers to understand routings and update where vital
  • Complete actual vs. standard cost reporting by product to drive operational efficiencies
  • Perform product portfolio analysis to drive profitability
  • Assist with updating monthly cost trackers and labour reports, and preparing budget vs. actual variance analysis.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • High school diploma/General Educational Development (GED) Certificate is required
  • Working towards Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Accounting or Finance

Experience:

University Student in Year 3-4
Equivalency:

Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant work experience may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Ability to prioritize multiple projects, work in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines. Knowledge of Systems: SAP and Hyperion an asset. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong customer focus and drive for results with strong problem-solving abilities. Capable of setting clear priorities, organizing work, and making quality decisions. Demonstrated computer proficiency with Microsoft Office programs. Proficiency with the English Language.

Models positive thinking and is open to change, motivating the team to adapt to shifts in priorities and new ways of working. Proactively identify areas for improvement in the execution of procedures. Communicate risks to timelines in a proactive manner. Consistently strives to improve skills and knowledge in related field.
Physical Requirements:

Light physical effort and fatigue. Walks, sits or stands for limited periods. May require occasional equipment operation including keyboard equipment. Lifts light items for limited duration. Typically located in a comfortable indoor area. There may be regular exposure to mild physical discomfort from factors such as dust, fumes or odours, temperature extremes, loud noise, strong drafts, or bright lights. Use of Personal Protective equipment may be required and may include any of the following: safety glasses, safety shoes, lab coat, gloves, hair net, beard cover, safety apron, respirator on occasionally.
