The Financial Analyst will be a subject matter expert responsible for establishing and coordinating effective processes to that steward capital budget tracking for the Department. This position is also responsible for delivering monthly and quarterly internal and external capital project reports to decision makers.
This position will work closely with all levels of management and project managers throughout the Department by providing knowledge, direction, assistance, data, research and information to complete the capital performance reporting process and support the operating budget performance reporting process.
The successful individual must have an understanding of accounting, financial and project management principles and a strong understanding of data governance and oversight. The ability to work effectively with others in an ambiguous and deadline driven environment is a must!
What will you do?
Capital Program Reporting and Planning
Support the Department's capital program, which can include collecting, consolidating project information such as budgets, cash flows, quarterly and year-end variance reporting, financial carryforwards and capital project business cases
Skilled in manipulating data to create reports to support decision making at various levels of the Department by providing solutions to optimize current capital project reporting processes
Coordinate the Department's capital program processes which look at reporting on the status of the Department's capital program
Tracking and reporting budget, funding sources information, allocations, commitments and actuals for projects
Providing dashboards and analysis on profile health of the projects
Support Department staff on projects & profile related matters
Provide context by translating complex financial or technical information as required to suit their audience
Use various systems (SAP, COBS, eBuilder. etc) to manage the project reporting process
Ensure accuracy of data in various systems
Project and Capital Reporting
Administer reporting process and ensure accuracy and consistency by department's monthly/quarterly project reporting
Ensuring that governance procedures are being followed and identifying emerging issues and potential solutions related to the reporting process
Advise the various stakeholders on the project reporting by having an in-depth understanding of the processes and projects being delivered
Grant Reporting and Planning
Coordinate, review and consolidate the grant applications within the department
Working with business partners to ensure regular reporting is conducted and communicated to the department
Qualifications
:Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or Management or a related field
Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible accounting/financial experience including project management experience is required
Skills required for success:
Knowledge of financial concepts such as variance reporting, basic accounting, and project management principles, Capital and Operating Budgets
Strong skills in data tracking, recording, analyzing, interpreting, and formula creation
Knowledge of financial controls
Familiarity working within a Google Workspace environment with a focus on Sheets and other analytical tools such as Looker Studio, or process automation.
Significant knowledge and experience with SAP or other related systems
Ability to work with a diverse group across the Department and corporation in an integrated and professional manner
Analytical, research and strong problem-solving skills to resolve operational or business issues and to incorporate process improvements
Ability to take independent actions and make sound decisions crucial to the successful operation of the section in a fast-paced work environment, ability to review, analyze and put forward sound financial recommendations associated with Department projects
Strong verbal and written communication skills
