The Controller shall take responsibility for managing the overall financial operations of the Company and will provide accurate information to the Board of Directors, including analysis, budgeting, forecasting and preparing financial reports. The Controller will be responsible for directing and managing the company's accounting functions, including establishing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, and procedures as well as the preparation of financial statements and reporting to top management and externally. The Controller also maintains the company's accounting systems and implements changes as required.
Job Duties
Manage the accounting operations including the review of journal entries, accounts receivable and statutory reporting - WSIB, T4's , Employee benefits, subsidies etc.
Establish and monitor internal controls to ensure that accounting activities are in accordance with established legal regulatory and company policies and procedures.
Full Budgeting and forecasting.
Prepare, analyze and present monthly, quarterly and annual operating results for each department.
Provide strategic analysis as required to drive improved decision making.
Maintain Capital Assets and long-term debt schedules.
Prepare and present financial information as requested
Monitor Key financial ratios for fuel, labour direct and indirect, repair and maintenance., tolls, licenses and permits.
Monitor KPI's such as invoices, receipts, number of AR banking transactions, accounting staff errors, other department errors, delays, AR account reconciliations performed, Dollars collected by aging i.e. over 90 days amounts collected in the current month etc. to ensure optimal staffing and employee performance. Need to make an appropriate case for additional staff showing optimal use of resources tempered with a thorough analysis of workload.
Implementation and management of internal controls with respect to financial policies, processes and procedures in AR.
Sets the priorities within AR group.
Responsible for the preparation of monthly financial statements and external reporting to financial institutions, ensuring that all reporting requirements are met.
With input from the CFO, responsible for the formulation of accounting policies, procedures and controls.
Requirements
University degree in Business/Accounting, with advanced degree or professional accounting designation (such as CA, CPA, CGA, CMA, CMT) preferred.
Extensive 10 years of experience and knowledge of all aspects of corporate accounting and financial management.
Thorough knowledge of all relevant Federal, Provincial and local requirements regarding financial records, pension, profit sharing, and the like is essential.
Financial analysis, budgeting and some strategic planning experience.
Knowledge of accounting principles, practices and applications.
Advanced knowledge of MS Office and Excel.
Excellent leadership, communication, presentation, problem solving and organizational skills are essential.
Able to work efficiently as a part of a team as well as independently.
Able to work well under pressure and meet set deadlines.
Attention to detail in all areas of work.
