The Department of Medical Imaging at the University of Toronto is the largest imaging department in Canada. It includes the imaging departments of eight fully affiliated teaching hospitals in the Greater Toronto Area, forming one of the largest teaching facilities in the world. All of our training sites operate with state-of-the-art imaging equipment, PACS and communication systems. Our curriculum is aimed at promoting the next generationof clinical radiologists, educators, researchers, innovators, leaders and patient advocates in medical imaging.

As the Finance & Operations Assistant, you will play an integral role in ensuring compliance with the University\xe2\x80\x99s financial rules and guidelines for our department. Working closely with the Business Manager, you will process payroll and financial transactions, gather information in preparation of budget planning and monitor and reconcile many accounts. You will perform a varietyof financial activities including processing casual payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable invoices, expense reimbursements, journal entries, purchase orders and monitor budgets to ensure expenditures remain within budgeted allocations. You will be responsible for resolving discrepancies and maintaining/preparing a variety of standard financial reports. Your financial background combined with your organizational, analytical, and strong attention to detail will be key to your success in this role.

Your responsibilities will include:


  • Recording and processing detailed transactions and reconciling many accounts
  • Verifying that all accounts payable and receivable activities have been accuratelyprocessed
  • Processing invoices, journal entries, purchase orders and expenses reimbursements for payment
  • Gathering information, liaising with internal contact in preparation for budget planning, including financial reports on restricted funds
  • Monitoring budgets for many accounts to ensure expenditures remain within budgeted allocations including identifying and resolving individual financial discrepancies
  • Analyzing financial processes and procedures and recommending changesfor improvement
  • Preparing expense reimbursements and formal purchase orders
  • Identifying and resolving individual financial discrepancies

Essential Qualifications:

  • Advanced College Diploma (3 years) or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum two (2) years relevant administrative and financial support experience, preferably in an academic or research environment
  • Demonstrated numerical accounting, financial and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated experience recording detailed finance and payroll transactions and monitoring and reconciling many accounts
  • Demonstrated experience reconciling purchasing card statements and processing expense reimbursements
  • Demonstrated experience processing invoices and preparing and/or processing journal entries
  • Demonstrated understanding of financial management procedures, accounting principles and procedures, an ability to accurately interpret and apply guidelines, procedures and regulations to a variety of tasks
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, financial management systems (FIS) and payroll systems (HRIS)
  • Excellent communicator, both written and verbal skills
  • Demonstrated numerical accounting, financial and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently but also effectively as part of a team
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and organizational skills with the ability to exercise good judgment, tact and diplomacy
  • Demonstrates professionalism ensuring complete confidentiality of sensitive and confidential information
  • Superior time management skills with ability to prioritize responsibilities and meet deadlines without compromising quality
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy
