The role of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is to advance the interests of Australia and Australians internationally. This involves strengthening Australia's security, enhancing Australia's prosperity, delivering an effective and high-quality overseas aid program and helping Australian travellers and Australians overseas. The department provides foreign, trade and development policy advice to the Australian Government. DFAT also works with other Australian government agencies to drive coordination of Australia's pursuit of global, regional and bilateral interests.
About the position
Under general direction, the Finance Manager position responsible for managing the financial operations of the High Commission, including budgeting, reporting, compliance, and stakeholder engagement, while ensuring alignment with audit requirements and service level agreements. This includes overseeing travel and representational funds, improving financial processes, and supporting ad hoc projects.
Key responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:
Develop and contribute to budget plans and forecasts across various functions of the High Commission while providing accurate financial management and compliance support including managing end of month and end of financial year financial reporting
Deliver high-quality financial services under the attached agency Service Level Agreement (SLA), including resolving financial enquiries from internal and external stakeholders and implementing audit findings
Identify and implement improvements to the High Commission's financial policies and processes and ensure all finance related documentation is retained in the records management system
Establish, develop and maintain strong working relationships with a range of key internal and external stakeholders including local authorities
Manage all financial aspects of travel and representational funds and other staff allowances, local sales tax claims and Fringe Benefits Tax returns
Undertake ad hoc projects for the High Commission across its various functions, including procurement and property management
Accounting Degree or equivalent work experience essential
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with strong Microsoft Excel skills and a good working knowledge of information management systems
Qualification, knowledge and/or experience with SAP and or TM1 desirable.
Demonstrated organisational skills and the ability to work under pressure and manage priorities
A high level of commitment to client service and significant experience in promoting, developing and managing relationships with senior management and clients
Sound written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to liaise and communicate effectively with others.
