As the Finance Manager, you have experience in accounting, payroll, and people management. You have a broad understanding of finance software and trends. You possess a Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
ABOUT THIS ROLE:
Analyzes and monitors the financial operations and provides advice and insights to the management team for making business decisions. The role is responsible for all full-cycle accounting and reporting of the United Way British Columbia. Leadership and development of the Finance Team is an important function of this role ensuring members are current on regulation and embodying core values.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Key Responsibilities:
Payroll and Benefits
Provides training and guidance to team
Reviews payroll prior to submission
Plans/Designs and reviews monthly benefits/liability reconciliations
Approves monthly payroll liability payments prior to payment
Prepares yearend T4 and GL payroll accounts reconciliations
Leads as subject matter expert for ADP WorkforceNow from a payroll perspective
Ensures accuracy of ADP WorkforceNow and that accounting software is updated accordingly
Key Responsibilities:
Accounts Receivable & Accounts Payable Cycles
Provides training and guidance on the accounts receivable and accounts payable cycle
Reviews invoice processing and payments prior to submission
Ensures efficiency and accuracy of processes across departments
Reviews monthly Accounts Receivable listing and performs follow up as necessary
Leads as subject matter expert for SAGE Intacct and Yooz
Key Responsibilities:
Audit and Journal Entries
Maintains schedules and reconciliations all accounts
Supports supervisor in preparing annual financial statements for audit
Supports supervisor in planning, preparing, and completing the audit field work
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting & Regulatory Compliance
Reconciles bank and investment accounts promptly
Ensures that balance sheet accounts are reconciled monthly
Ensures data from CRM donation processing is captured in financial reporting appropriately and on a timely basis
Ensures general ledger / trial balance structure is appropriate and supports monthly financial statement reporting
Prepares monthly management and departmental financial statements, including supplementary reports and variance analysis
Liases with departmental teams to ensure financial reporting is accurate and understood by departments
Supports the Director, Finance & Operations in preparing quarterly financial statements and supplemental reports for the board of directors
Supports departments in financial reporting related to government contracts
Maintains all government filings requirements (ie. T3010)
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Development
Research, advises and plans for compliance with all applicable regulatory updates, (ie. GAAP, GST, payroll remittances, CRA)
Ensures core values are understood and being demonstrated in all financial procedures and internal control processes
Maintains internal control systems and documentation to ensure clarity and ease of financial processing
Identifies opportunities for improved internal controls and processes
Key Responsibilities:
Donor Services
Manages the Donations Processing team including:
+ Reviewing the structure and performance of the team
+ Monitoring team KPIs and providing coaching/support to the team
+ Creating processes & efficiency
+ Planning & directing Donor Services members Manages compliance of CRA and accounting rules
Ensures that all donations processing services are completed in a timely manner
Creates, reviews, and implements policies, procedures & processes to ensure financial controls are in place
Review & analysis of financial reports
Ensures that monthly reporting from Salesforce is reconciled for financial operation completion
Provides a high level of internal & external customer service
General
May participate in community engagement or fundraising activities
Performs other duties related to the qualifications and requirements of the job
Manages team including hiring and performance management. Provides guidance and sets standards and priorities, assigning work, removing barriers and ensuring goals are met
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
Education
:
Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting or related field
Experience
Seven (7) years of experience in accounting and payroll
Experience managing and leading a large team
Skills:
Proficient user of finance software, preferably including Sage Intacct
Extensive understanding of financial trends both within the company and general market patterns
Excellent business judgement, analytical, and decision-making skills
Strong demonstrated use of Excel, Word and PowerPoint (MS Office)
Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
Able to manage, guide and lead employees to ensure appropriate financial processes are being used
Strong knowledge and understanding of GAAP principles
Demonstrated creative and critical thinking skills
Able to work on multiple projects simultaneously
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Some hours outside of business hours to attend meetings and events

This is an exempt role. This position is between $94,500 and $105,000 annually.
Candidates must live within 80 KMs (commuting distance) from our office as this position is currently a hybrid role and office attendance is required.
