Maguire Metals | Full-time | In-house/Hybrid | Castleton / Northumberland County, ON
Maguire Metals is growing fast and we're hiring an in-house Finance Lead to take full ownership of payroll, payments, tax remittances, and day-to-day finance operations -- plus bring sharp, practical advice on purchasing strategy, equipment buys, and growth decisions.
This isn't a "keep-the-books-clean" job (though you'll absolutely do that). This is a finance + strategy seat for someone who can run payroll, AR/AP, taxes, and payments with discipline... and bring clear, confident advice on when to buy equipment, when to hire, and how to deploy cash to drive growth.
If you're a "financial weapon" who's also a calm, trusted teammate -- we want to meet you.
What you'll own (core responsibilities)
1) Payroll + People Cost Control
Run payroll end-to-end (accurate, on-time, compliant)
Maintain payroll records, deductions, remittances, ROEs, and related reporting
Support leadership with labour cost visibility and hiring affordability analysis
2) Accounts Receivable (Customer Payments)
Own invoicing support, customer follow-ups, collections rhythm, and payment tracking
Maintain customer statements, credits, and payment commitments
Improve cashflow predictability and reduce days outstanding
3) Accounts Payable (Vendor Payments)
Manage bills, approvals, payment runs, vendor terms, and vendor relationships
Ensure clean documentation, coding, and posting inside QuickBooks Enterprise
Keep us current without starving growth -- you'll balance discipline with momentum
4) Tax + Government Payments (in coordination with our CFO)
Handle HST/GST tracking and remittances
Coordinate year-end readiness supporting the CFO
Keep compliance tight and stress low
5) Financing + Equipment + Purchasing Strategy
Track and manage loan/lease payments and finance obligations
Build purchasing strategies for equipment, materials, and major spend
Advise on: buy vs lease, timing purchases, cash preservation, and ROI
Bring proactive insight on: when to invest in people, when to automate, and what will actually move the growth needle
6) QuickBooks Enterprise Ownership (non-negotiable)
You will be the internal QB Enterprise power user
Maintain chart of accounts hygiene, workflows, and reporting accuracy
Build dashboards/report packs leadership can actually use
What "great" looks like in this role
Within the first 90 days, you've:
Stabilized and tightened our payroll + AR/AP cadence
Built clean reporting that shows cash position, payables runway, receivables, margins, and spend vs plan
Improved collection consistency and reduced avoidable late payments
Created a simple, repeatable process for evaluating equipment purchases and hiring decisions
Become a trusted voice in leadership conversations (firm, clear, and solutions-first)
Must-haves (deal breakers)
Strong QuickBooks Enterprise proficiency
(not Online, not "I can learn it")
Proven experience owning payroll + AR/AP + tax remittances + cashflow
Confidence advising leadership on spending, timing, and ROI
High accuracy, strong documentation habits, and a "tight ship" mindset
In-person availability -- this is a full-time, in-house / hybrid role
Nice-to-haves
Experience in manufacturing, construction supply, metal, or high-volume operations
Experience with equipment financing/leases, capex planning, and inventory/purchasing controls
Comfort building simple models (ROI, payback, margin impact) in Excel/Sheets
Experience improving financial processes (approvals, purchasing rules, vendor terms, collections cadence)
Soft skills we actually care about
You communicate clearly without ego
You can push back respectfully (and explain why)
You're steady under pressure and don't let deadlines slide
You work well with operators -- production, sales, leadership -- and you make the team better, not tense
Compensation
Competitive and based on experience. We'll pay for the right person -- especially someone who can protect cash, improve decisions, and fuel growth.
