we have an exciting opportunity for a Finance Lead to join our team.You will join us on a

part-time basis

as part of an initial 1-year fixed term contract with a view to progressing into a permanent role. In return, you will receive a competitive salary of $39,000 and benefits.


Human Appeal is a faith-based charity that aims to abolish poverty by providing humanitarian aid, sustainable development programs and championing advocacy for our beneficiaries worldwide.


The Finance Lead we are seeking is a detail-oriented and organized person who will oversee our daily financial operations. In this key role, you ensure accurate, transparent financial management, allowing our team to focus on delivering meaningful impact. You will handle accounts payable/receivable, prepare monthly financial reports, ensure compliance with grant and donor funds, and maintain our financial records.

Key duties and responsibilities (but not limited to):

Process accounts payable/receivable and reconcile bank and credit card statements. Prepare monthly financial reports and assist with budgets and audits. Oversee payroll, benefits, and government remittances in line with provincial standards. Note: Payroll is managed by a third-party provider, so this role is only responsible for reviewing from Finance end and recording in books. Additionally, perform income reconciliations with the Data Services team and generate departmental income reports for accurate calculation of ROI. Track grant and donor funds, ensuring compliance with agreements. Maintain accurate financial records and update accounting software. Support program teams with Fund report for planning and reporting.

Skills and Experience:

Experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or finance (nonprofit experience is an asset). Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting standards and CRA compliance for nonprofits. Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks, Sage, or Xero) and Excel. Attention to detail, organization skills, and ability to meet deadlines

Education, Certifications, and Languages:

Bachelors degree from a recognized institution in Canada, with progress toward a CPA designation is a plus.

Safeguarding bright futures for more than 22,000 vulnerable orphans in 9 countries. Our one-to-one sponsorship program has a built-in school attendance requirement while covering the cost of food, housing, medical care, and learning materials. Pioneering technologically innovative infrastructure projects in Pakistan, like designing and building a 25-km embankment on the Chenab River in Pakistan. Protecting an entire community from being washed away, the embankment has held back the floods each year, including Pakistans worst flooding in a decade during its last monsoon season. Quenching the thirst for the 2 million residents of the Gaza Strip by working with UNOCHA to purify Gazas water network. And now, our newest project involves building a large-scale desalination plant to provide daily access to clean water for 60,000 people across Gaza. Recovering lost livelihoods for vulnerable farmers in Gaza by planting 80,000 olive trees since 1991. The farming project provides each farmer with 30-40 prime olive trees so they can establish a vibrant, sustainable crop that yields not just food but income for generations.
