Job Description

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Finance Lead is responsible for ensuring the financial integrity, transparency, and stability of the organization. As the primary financial contact, this role oversees the full cycle of financial management, including budgeting, reporting, forecasting, compliance, and audit coordination, while supporting the Executive Director and management team in strategic decision-making. The Finance Lead ensures that all financial operations align with the organization's mission, goals, and regulatory obligations.

Key Responsibilities



Financial Management and Reporting

Ensure financial compliance and integrity of financial reporting in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS) Prepare, analyze, and interpret financial data to support budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning. Develop, monitor, and maintain annual and multi-year financial plans to support the organization's sustainability and growth. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management, the Finance and Audit Committee, and the Board of Directors. Oversee accounting processes, ensuring accurate and timely recording of all financial transactions. Provide financial insights and recommendations to aid in informed decision-making.
Budgeting and Forecasting

Lead the development and administration of the annual organizational budget in collaboration with department managers and directors. Monitor budget variances and provide analysis to improve financial performance and accountability. Support program managers with budget tracking, grant reporting, and fund allocation to ensure financial alignment with program goals. Lead cost analysis and financial modeling to support operational efficiency.
Cash Flow, Accounting, and Audit Oversight

Manage organizational cash flow, ensuring adequate liquidity to meet operational and program needs. Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, government remittances, and bank reconciliations. Ensure timely entry and accuracy of all financial data across multiple program areas or entities. Coordinate the annual audit process and year-end procedures, including preparation of working papers and liaison with external auditors. Support the Executive Director and Finance and Audit Committee with banking requirements and financial policy recommendations.
Compliance and Risk Management

Ensure compliance with all financial regulations, tax laws, and funding requirements. Maintain sound internal controls and financial procedures to safeguard organizational assets. Identify and manage financial risks, providing mitigation strategies to the Executive Director and Board. Oversee RRSP and benefits administration in collaboration with HR, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.
Strategic and Organizational Support

Provide financial leadership to support strategic planning and organizational priorities. Collaborate with senior management to develop financial strategies that align with operational and programmatic objectives. Participate in the administration of the Finance and Audit Committee, preparing agendas, reports, and financial presentations. Recommend and implement improvements to financial systems, reporting processes, and policies. Contribute to fostering a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications



Education and Experience:

o Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or related field; CPA designation or equivalent experience preferred. o Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in financial management, preferably within a non-profit or public sector environment. o Strong knowledge of fund accounting, grant reporting, and financial compliance requirements. o Demonstrated experience with budgeting, forecasting, and audit coordination. o Proficiency in accounting software, preferably QuickBooks Online and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

Working Conditions

Standard office hours with flexibility for occasional evening or weekend meetings. Hybrid or remote work arrangements may be considered.
