About the Role
EntrepreNorth is seeking an experienced and strategic Finance Director to lead the financial operations of our charitable organization and ensure its long-term sustainability and accountability. As a key member of the senior leadership team, the Finance Director will oversee financial planning, management, and reporting while developing policies, systems, and procedures that strengthen funding partnerships and support new revenue opportunities.
Working closely with the Co-Leadership and management teams - as well as with MakeWay during our transition to becoming an independent charity - the Finance Director will provide timely financial guidance to inform strategic and operational decisions. They will also recruit and manage finance staff and contractors, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance across all financial functions, while serving as a trusted advisor to leadership in guiding organizational growth and sustainability.
What You'll Do
Finance Team Development & Leadership
Assess current and future organizational needs to strategically identify the types of financial roles and supports required to build a resilient and responsive finance function
Lead recruitment, onboarding, and management of finance team members, fostering a collaborative and values-aligned team culture
Develop systems and processes that support capacity-building within the finance team, ensuring alignment with EntrepreNorth's mission and commitment to Indigenous entrepreneurship
Work closely with project leads to support project budgeting, grant spending tracking, and financial planning
Contribute financial insights during strategic planning, fundraising, and operational decision-making processes
Present key financial updates and recommendations to the executive co-leadership and management teams, and the Board Finance Committee
Financial Operations & Accounting
Manage full-cycle accounting, including accounts payable and receivable, reconciliations, payroll coordination, and monthly close processes
Maintain and update the general ledger, chart of accounts, and internal documentation to ensure accuracy and clarity
Lead the preparation of internal financial statements, variance reports, and cash flow forecasts
Reporting & Compliance
Prepare accurate and timely financial reports for funders, partners, and internal stakeholders, ensuring compliance with funding agreements and reporting timelines
Coordinate and support the annual external audit process, including preparation of working papers, reconciliations, and schedules
Ensure compliance with CRA and charitable reporting requirements (T3010) Impact Fund Financial Support
Support financial tracking and reporting for EntrepreNorth's Sinew Impact Fund, including loan and investment activities
Track fund commitments and disbursements, ensure proper fund allocation, and monitor repayment schedules or conditions
Assist with the development of internal fund reporting tools and ensure alignment with impact measurement frameworks
Systems, Controls & Process Improvement
Identify and implement improvements to financial systems, tools, and workflows to increase transparency, accuracy, and efficiency
Lead the development of financial administrative policies to ensure a high level of transparency and accountability to our funding partners and Board of Directors
Ensure secure and organized storage of financial records in alignment with privacy and data retention policies
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of non-profit financial regulations and the funding landscape, with an emphasis on Indigenous-led organizations and relational finance models

Experience You Bring
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field
CPA designation required (CAFM designation considered an asset)
3-6 years of experience in a senior financial management role in a non-profit or charitable organization
Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial analysis, and budgeting
Proven ability to lead and develop a finance team
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and strategic planning skills
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams and with external partners
Demonstrated attention to detail and commitment to upholding financial integrity
It Would Be a Bonus if You Have
Experience working with Indigenous communities
Familiarity with relational or community-based finance models
Experience supporting impact funds, investments, or loan portfolios
Knowledge of Northern economic and funding contexts
Advanced proficiency with accounting and financial software
