provides strategic direction and effective leadership for financial services, including purchasing, materials management, financial operations and financial reporting. Duties include managing daily operations of the Finance Services Department, and oversees the development and implementation of financial policies. They will support strategies to ensure development and execution of Bigstone Cree Nations' strategic plans.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITES:
Effectively manages Financial Services programs and operations at all levels, ensuring services are provided in a positive and constructive manner;
Ensures the development of effective and secure on-line and web services for all receipts, payments and accounting functions, working collaboratively with the Administrative Systems team, computing services and stakeholders under HRMS and SAGE;
Monitors all financial policies procedures and related internal controls to ensure compliance;
Ensures that financial reports are complete, accurate and provide necessary information to facilitate managerial decision-making;
Monitors financial reporting obligations and ensures that internal and external reporting deadlines are met, ensuring monthly financial reports are submitted;
Actively participates in several committees and Groups and attendance is also required at the Audit and Membership Meetings;
Advises the Council and Executive Director of any concerns and problems that arise and be identified in internal and external audits;
Lead the implementation of the Nations' financial services strategy and carries a significant responsibility to manage financial risks including cash and investment management;
Will research and review emerging financial trends; and
Other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Extensive knowledge and appreciation for Bigstone Cree Nation people, culture, language, history, values, traditions, and extended family relationships;
Ability to speak Cree and/or understand is an asset;
Bachelor of Commerce Degree, CA, CMA or CGA with 2+ years work and supervisory experience or a NAIT Accounting Diploma with 3 years work and supervisory experience;
Maintain high degree of confidentiality;
Valid Alberta Driver's license, and reliable transportation; and
A criminal record check is required after the acceptance of a letter of offer.
