Torn Banner Studios is a Toronto, Canada-based independent game development studio founded in 2010. We first made our mark with Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, a multi-million copy selling title that redefined melee combat in gaming. Since then, we've continued to grow and innovate, releasing Chivalry 2 and, most recently, No More Room in Hell 2, currently in Early Access. Today, our team of around 100 developers is dedicated to creating unique, challenging, and fun gaming experiences.
The Role
We are seeking a Finance Director to lead the finance team at Torn Banner Studios. This role calls for an experienced, proactive leader with a "can-do" attitude who can oversee all day-to-day financial operations, including accounting, financial reporting, and forecasting. While also serving as a trusted advisor to our management team and Board on strategic decision-making. The ideal candidate will be familiar with Canadian accountancy standards and have a passion for building strong, efficient financial systems.
Responsibilities
Own the overall budget and cash flow of the company.
Work with team/department leads in order to establish and manage department budgets.
Responsible for developing and maintaining financial projections.
Responsible for monthly and quarterly financial reporting.
Provide support for the executive team as well as reports for board meetings.
Manage our relationships with external financial partners for auditing and tax returns.
Oversee the company's strategy around SRED, OIDMTC, and other federal and provincial grants.
Ensure all best practice accountancy processes are in place.
Define the balance sheet strategy, including financing, investing and FX.
Requirements
Degree or diploma in finance, accounting, business, or a comparable equivalent.
A minimum of 3 years of experience in a finance or accounting role with a deep understanding of GAAP, ASPE, & IFRS.
Experience owning budgets, vendor/client relationships.
Experience providing financial reports to senior leadership.
Strong organization skills and attention to detail.
Problem-solving skills.
Strong initiative, self-driven, self-starter.
Bonus
Experience working at a startup at the growth stage.
Understanding of the video games industry.
CPA or equivalent advanced credentials in finance or accounting.
Experience and knowledge in both the USA and Canadian tax.
