35 Hours per week

Salary:

$120,000-$140,000 depending on experience

Yunesit'in, Hanceville BC- 1 hour and 15 minutes from Williams Lake, BC

The Yunesit'in Government seeks a highly skilled and experienced

Finance Director

to oversee all financial activities. This role includes leading the finance team, ensuring accurate financial reporting, creating financial strategies, and providing financial advice, all while supporting the community's economic and cultural wellbeing.

The Yunesit'in Nation is a First Nations community located West of Williams Lake. It is part of the Tsilhqot'in Nation, which is made up of six communities that share a common language and culture.

The Yunesit'in Nation continues to assert its rights and protect its land. It is actively involved in resource management decisions affecting its territory and strives to balance economic development and environmental sustainability.

Key Responsibilities



Develop and implement financial strategies to support and align with the community's long-term goals.

Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for the Directors, Chief and Council.

Conduct variance analysis and provide insight into financial performance.

Develop and manage the annual budgets and forecasts.

Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in compliance with accounting standards and regulations.

Review, improve, and maintain financial policies and procedure.

Manage the preparation of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.

Coordinate and manage the annual audit process.

Ensure compliance with tax laws and regulations requirements specific to First Nation communities.

Lead, mentor and capacity build the Finance team, fostering a culture of collaboration, respect, and cultural sensitivity.

Provide guidance and support to team members on financial matters.

Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback for professional development.

Oversee cashflow management.

Review and pursue funding streams.

Manage strategies and processes for navigating and evaluating major projects that impact YG.

Manage relationships with banks and other financial institutions.

Monitor and manage debt levels and compliance with debt covenants.

Identify and assess financial risks and develop mitigation strategies.

Ensure adequate internal controls are in place to safeguard organizational assets.

Monitor and manage insurance coverage.

Communicate financial information to community members in a clear and accessible manner, promoting financial literacy and participation.

Attend community meetings and provide updates on financial matters, addressing questions and concerns from members.

Work closely with the Directors, Chief, and Council to ensure financial decisions align with community priorities and cultural values.

Qualifications



CPA designation is a requirement Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or a related field At least five years of experience in financial management and accounting within First Nation contexts. A strong understanding of Indigenous governance structures, cultures, traditions, and issues facing Indigenous communities. Familiarity with accounting principles and financial regulations. Proficient in financial software and Microsoft Office Suite. Strong leadership and team management skills. Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities. Experience working with First Nation communities and organizations. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. Strategic thinking and the ability to align operations with organizational goals.
Working Conditions

Travel may be required.

Overtime as required.

Lifting or moving up to 15lbs may be required.
