Summary
The County of Vermilion River is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our safety oriented team as a Finance Coordinator based in Kitscoty, Alberta. The Finance Coordinator, reporting to the Finance Manager, will provide support for management planning and decision making by identifying, implementing, maintaining, and evaluating financial information and recommending actions.

Key Responsibilities
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with full-cycle accounting using financial software.
  • Provide assistance to accounts payable and receivable, reconcile accounts
and manage financial records.
  • Process Municipal and Gas Journal entries.
  • Assist with application, maintaining and all reporting requirements for Grants.
  • Create and maintain financial reports as required.
  • Assist with staff general inquiries regarding GST.
  • Assist with review of Department Annual Budget, monthly and year-end Financial
Statements.
  • Assist with year-end processes and annual municipal audit.
  • Continuously evaluate and implement new ideas, initiatives and technology to
enhance the delivery of finance services throughout the County.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
  • A degree in accounting or related field from a post-secondary institution.
  • 5 or more years related experience, including some managerial experience in
other industries or with municipal accounting principles.
  • Knowledge of the Municipal Government Act, Access to Information Act,
Protection of Privacy Act and Records Management.
  • Strong analytical skills with an attention to detail.
  • Understanding of financial and accounting principles.
  • Outstanding presentation, reporting and communication skills to present and
explain information and financial plans.
Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of education and
experience.
