We are a locally owned and operated company based in Kenora, Ontario on the northern shores of Lake of the Woods. We brew craft beer and manufacture beverages! Lake of the Woods Brewing Company is committed to sustainable practices, business growth and development, and building and fostering alliances to support local, fresh, and handcrafted goods and services. Lake of the Woods Brewing Company HQ is in a repurposed, historic fire hall in downtown Kenora, with additional microbrew and taproom locations in Winnipeg MB, and Warroad MN. The company has recently constructed a new full size factory brewery in Kenora, ON which will allows to brew beer and craft non beer beverages in house.



Due to the anticipated increase in the business, the company is hiring for a senior accounting professional who will oversee the organization's financial operations, ensure the accuracy of its financial records, as well as work with ownership to manage the growth of the company. The newly created, hands on, position of CFO will report to the President and oversee the accounting department.

What this Job Entails:

This is a full-time, permanent position with the organization. You are a key member of the team at Lake of the Woods Brewing Company and as such the ideal candidate is growth and bottom line focused. Oversee all accounting and financial functions.

Responsibilities include the following:

Accounting operations: Oversee, manage and engage all accounting functions; including the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll function, government remittance, and billing. Financial reporting: Prepare and publish accurate and timely internal and external financial statements, including monthly, quarterly, and annual reports. Prepare working papers for year-end by external accountant. Budgeting and forecasting: Manage the annual budgeting process and produce financial forecasts and variance analysis reports to guide strategic decision-making. Internal controls: Develop, implement, and maintain internal controls and accounting policies to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with GAAP. Audits and compliance: Coordinate and lead the activities of external auditors, and ensure the company remains compliant with all regulatory requirements and tax laws. Team leadership: Manage, mentor, and train the accounting and finance staff, clarifying roles and responsibilities to optimize department performance. Process improvement: Assess current accounting procedures and systems and implement new processes to improve efficiency and accuracy as needed. Financial analysis: Analyze financial data and performance metrics to provide insights and recommendations to executive management.

Skills and Qualifications:

Experience in full-cycle accounting is required. CPA designation is preferred but not required, 5-10 years of professional accounting experience (preference for accounting with hospitality and breweries but not a must). Excellent verbal and written communication skills along with the ability to interact with internal and external stakeholders, and possess an ability to work within a tight-knit team is a must. Deep knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) is essential. Proficiency with accounting software and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) platforms is also necessary. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication and presentation abilities, attention to detail, and sound leadership skills are critical for success for this position.
